Illegal Pigeon Feeders

I find pigeons to be a bit aggravating, especially when people feed them. They're not only filthy but occassionally aggressive and they're prolific producers and they should fend for themselves. I definitely support fines, though a $1,000 seems a bit excessive. S.F. should take note. And while they're at it, they should hand out fines to people who stand on the left on the BART escalators.

I'm in a bad mood just thinking about it.

I'm in total agreement on the fines. I respect all forms of life, but overpopulation of pigeons is pretty bad for public health (similar to overpopulation of rats). Most people don't know this, but pigeons carry fleas, and their excrement is really toxic. It's actually so toxic that an unlucky family friend lost an eye because of a pigeon... so beware!

maybe we should just give them mickey mouse ears and brand the mtv/viacom logo on them while we feed them olive garden?

what's wrong with me. Im not even a tourist, but I feed the gulls, plovers and pigeons with my weeks left over bread every sunday. They really go for those everything bagels

They should be fined allowing disease to be spead by airborn rodents. Too bad cats are unable to fly, they would be able to avoid animal control and be able to control the ridiculous bird population. Seems like all other animals seem to have a control.

You're fighting a losing battle. The pigeon will remain one step ahead no matter what!

Birth Control is the way to go here. Starving the pigeons doesn't work. There's plenty for them to eat in NYC even if they never got another handout.

Why not let pigeon lovers continue to nurture their avian affection, but control the population's numbers to reduce public nuisance and health threats?

And, yes there are more important legislative issues on the table (especially nationally), but a city government will always have to deal with the health and happiness of it's people and their environment as a very high priority. It doesn't add to the debate to say, "Come on, this is a waste of time." If we only worked on or thought about top priority issues so much work that keeps this country functioning would fall to the wayside.

fuck the flying rats...flame throw/napalm them. i'd almost rather have roaches, at least their quiet and wouldn't wake me up.

First... I respect and care about all life.

However, nothing and I mean nothing is more unappealing, disgusting, and unhealthy as handrails that are loaded with pigeon droppings.

I know people that carry disposable gloves and hand sanitizers to use the subways.

To tourists granted it's romantic. Feeding the pigeons in the (fill in the blank) park.

There are several things the city can do.. bring in more hawks, and cats, or sell pigeon food that has birthcontrol mixed in.

Short of the above.. fines to those that feed the birds is the only way to get a handle on the problem.

This BTW.. won't starve the pigeons.. trust me. these birds live quite well on their own. Raiding gabage cans, and dive bombing people's plates at outdoor cafes.

But yes.. something HAS to be done!!!

i respect that some people are just uneducated and are to stubon to learn and thats sad for them but have a think about it. pigeons do not carry any more diseases than any other bird its a fact google it. we as humans brought these birds here and provided them with a habitat to thrive in thats our fault not theres there just doing what they no best. do your self a favor and befor you just go oh "rats with wings" kill them all go and learn a bit about them. i bet you didnt know that pigeons saved thousands of human lives during ww1 and ww2 and in reality what is it that pigeons do thats so bad? they clean up OUR mess, they dont compete with wildlife if at all they provide a food source for native preditors, and if getting the odd poop on you is really of concern go get a cool hat like simcha felda in that clip and you will be right.
honestly there are much bigger things in life to worry about, i dont understand why people get all worked up about a pigeon take a chill pill
