One of Kurdistan's most famous artists, Fuad moved from Iraq to Italy decades ago to practice his art. When Saddam came to power, art was outlawed and Fuad couldn't return home for 18 years. When he finally returned he saw that the destruction from Saddam's reign and from the Gulf War had completely changed his home, and he was now a stranger in his own land.
When Saddam was deposed, Iraqi Kurdistan was granted it's own parliament and prime minister. The new Kurdish prime minister has asked Fuad to design a monument to the Unknown Kurdish Soldier. But political pressure may keep the project from ever being realized.
