I also have read the book but I don't find this interview frustrating. He's a satirist. However, I definitely do believe it takes smarts to realize that this is a serious situation and that it's not all jokes. She makes a lot of scary and valid points. I don't think Colbert would have invited her on the show w/o thinking that what she has to say is important.

Having read the book I found this very frustrating to watch.

Rob and MM - I see both points of view on this and it's very thought provoking. Although you both respectfully disagree, I'm thinking you're both right on this issue. I watch Bill Maher every week because he keeps our attention with humor on serious issues this country is facing, but in a way that makes people think outside the box. You don't have to agree with everything he says, but the humor gets people to listen to information and points of view they won't see somewhere else. He does, however, clarify the seriousness of the issues when called for, which Colbert doesn't do. I still have to think this through a bit more, thanks for sharing the stimulating conversation.

Rob, Look around you. There really are people that can't be reached any other way. I was glad to see someone reaching out to them. I wish it wasn't that way but it is. If ten % of his audience takes the time to look further we win. You and I get our news other places, they don't. Just thank God for people like him or some people would still think Saddam flew those planes into the towers.

Think about it Rob, She is not stupid she knew what to expect. He is comedy, his audience watches for comedy. Some will get it and buy the book, others will just get an inkling they might not otherwise get. He would lose all of them if he got serious. I'm pretty sure most of his audience got it. You got irritated because of how it was handled because you wanted to hear news. His audience want intertainment they would be irritated if it wasn't comedy they expect. They got comedy with a bit of pretty shocking news thrown in. Sometimes that is the best way to introduce news.
