This shocking statistic was reported by CBS News. In this article, a widow of a Vietnam veteran who took his own life gives her perspective on the role of PTSD in this epidemic.

Click here the the original CBS reportThat's a phenomenal figure! Just incredible. What's the response to the story been like in America? Outrage or fairly low key?
-
That is absolutely astounding. I hope that this story is told more and more. This is something everyone should know.
-
Another touching and strong pod from Vanguardwith a first person look at a soldier struggling with PTSD after fighting in Iraq.
-
Such a shame. Add these people's names to the list of casualties of the war.
For these unfortunate people, democracy, oil, one world government, the US remaining the dominate power for the next hundred years, even global warming - means nothing at all.-

ALIVE DAY MEMORIES: HOME FROM IRAQThis is a nightmare of epic proportions, eventually Vietnam will seem like child's play. Start peace now!
????????????????????????????????????????
In a war that has left more than 25,000 wounded, ALIVE DAY MEMORIES: HOME FROM IRAQ looks at a new generation of veterans. Executive Producer James Gandolfini interviews ten Soldiers and Marines who reveal their feelings on their future, their severe disabilities and their devotion to America. The documentary surveys the physical and emotional cost of war through memories of their "alive day," the day they narrowly escaped death in Iraq.-

More suffering Veterans...This viewpoint shows how many of the war veterans of years gone by are now homeless. Homelessness and suicides, surely they deserve better than this?
Current Viewpoints give you the opportunity to really voice your opinions and interact with other people's ideas. Why not go have a look and let yourself be heard! -
I think what we need to do first is to define this military action in Iraq accurately. It is not a war, it is an occupation. We need to stop referring to it as a "war."
When we define it accurately, we remove the barriers to coping with the unique character of service our soldiers are actually experiencing. We can better prepare them, we can better help with their adjustment to both their military service and to their re-entry into civilian life, and we can better help their families and communities to understand their experience and their sacrifices.
Once we are truthful about occupation, we can then address the political aspects to it - decide whether to proceed and if so, how. We'll at least have the potential for coming to terms with it as a society, and with the sacrifices we are requiring of our young men and women.
We are unable to develop appropriate solutions if we can't speak the truth. All we can do then is wring our hands and shake our heads and say, isn't it a shame. And continue losing our brightest and our best.

Military Losses, 1980 thru 2007
http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/natsec/RL32492.pdf)
As tragic as the loss of any member of the US Armed Forces is, consider the following statistics:
The annual fatalities of military members while actively serving in the armed forces from 1980 through 2006:
1980 ......... 2,392 (Carter Year)
1981 .......... 2,380 (Reagan Year)
1984 .......... 1,999 (Reagan Year
1988 .......... 1,819 (Reagan Year)
1989 .......... 1,636 (George H W Year)
1990 .......... 1,508 (George H W Year)
1991 .......... 1,787 (George H W Year)
1992 .......... 1,293 (George H W Year)
1993 .......... 1,213 (Clinton Year)
1994 .......... 1,075 (Clinton Year)
1995 .......... 2,465 (Clinton Year)
1996 .......... 2,318 (Clinton Year)
1997 ............. 817 (Clinton Year)
1998 .......... 2,252 (Clinton Year)
1999 .......... 1,984 (Clinton Year)
2000 .......... 1,983 (Clinton Year)
Clinton years (1993-2000): 14,000 deaths

2005 ............. 919 (George W Year)
2006.............. 920 (George W Year)
2007.............. 899 (George W Year)
George W years (2001-2006): 7,932 deaths
These figures mean that the loss from the two latest conflicts in the Middle East are LESS than the loss of military personnel during Bill Clinton's presidency; when America wasn't even involved in a war!
Race in general population:
European descent (White) ............... 69.12%
Hispanic ............................................ 12.5%
Black ................................................. 12.3%
Asian ................................................... 3.7%
Native American .................................. 1.0%
Other .................................................. 2.6%
Now... here are the fatalities by Race; over the past three years in Iraqi Freedom:

UTHookEmHorns73 - we all know the tremendous ability of those corrupted people in the US government to "adjust" or "alter" or "manipulate" the numbers to suit themselves. Presenting such facts makes it appear Ya'll are trustworthy - that ya'll wouldn't lie to us for the benefit of oil companies and greedy people.
Rrrrriiiiiiggggghhhhhttttttt! Statis-dicks don't lie do they. Especially coming from you - a person who hides his / her / it's identity on the internet.
I believe you - even though statistically it is extremely likely you can't be trusted any further than I could throw you! The truth be known.
So, of the limitless ways those people with a "street mentality" have of manipulating facts, statistics and people's perception of reality, you know, people like Rice Dick Rove 'n Bush, I won't even attempt to figure them out, but one GLARINGLY obvious exclusion to the death count are the "contracted killers" who the US government has over there that aren't counted as US military.
But, what the hell? Do one million Iraqi lives mean nothing? Dude, dudette, dudething, pull your head out of the sand and count the bodies - all the bodies.
Think you can count the effects on the as yet unborn children? How about the nuclear waste we use in the bombs? What about the broken homes of those US military families - fatherless children? What about the parents of men and women who've died over there based on a Morons judgement to take us there?
You a psychopath man, chick. thing? You don't care about Iraqi people? Families of foolish kids joining the US military? The unborn children in Iraq? Our environment polluted by the nuk waste?
I've never seen proof that Al Queda exists but that which the US government, Busheney have provided through corporate media - so, I think it's nothing more than a land and resource grab.-
