Creative freedom or financial security? Too bad this has to be an issue for so many artists...

Typical major label tactics. In the UK majors have signed bands and MCs with no intention of ever releasing their music, just to make sure that these acts can't sign with anyone else & thus compete with the label's preferred artists.
At the end of the day, if, as an artist, you value your musical integrity, you're far more likely to be better off not signing with a major. This may or may not mean less financial security - many are the tales of bands who get a big advance when they sign with a major, only to later find that this amount is practically nothing after the label has deducted all their 'costs' for promoting/recording/touring the band.
The moral of the story? Kids - don't sign with majors, release stuff yourselves!

This sounds about right, and pretty typical. Good luck to them, they seem like they will be able to succeed on their own.

That was an awesome pod. It's so crazy how bands get turned through the machine and have to change the music.

....but watch out for those bigger independents aswell.
They are try hard Majors, the ONLY difference being
market share.....
