On the afternoon of Tuesday, November 20, 2007 somewhere around 4,000 writers and supporters banded together to protest down Hollywood Blvd. ending at the Chinese theatre to rally the good word. This event breathes a breath of fresh air to up and coming young writers and sets the bar of advantage. This is my story from the streets, inspired, and emotionally charged, the children of Hollywood shine through this plastic town and come together to fight for their creative write.

  • Sammy,

Thanks for putting this together. It's instructive on several levels. First, on a literal level, it helps explain why this strike has been a positive force. Putting together significant numbers for pickets and marches is hard enough to do, but keeping key players away from work is even harder. Second, you were ballsy enough to talk to and record key players. Third, and perhaps more subtly, it presents a strike (and a labor union) in a positive light. Not easy to do, in general, huh?

I also have to say your sound work was clear and audible when it needed to be, but your bridge tracks -- the snare-drum percussuion -- struck me a being grating. Visually, I liked your shots of the marchers walking toward you. It just went on for too long. Ditto on the introduction from on high: too long. Also, it ain't no revolution. Nor are they Children of the Revolution, whatever that refers to. If it's just a flourish, it's overstated. It is a labor struggle. It is a flawed, but fascinating exercise in political Kabuki. But it isn't a revolution.

    Good luck!
