Yikes!!

Hundreds of protesters armed with swords and sticks gathered outside the presidential palace in Khartoum, many demanding Gillian Gibbons be killed for allowing her students to name a teddy bear Muhammad.

Convenient how they aren't pissed at the kids, huh?... Last I checked, it was their idea!! Can you imagine how terrified the students that wanted that name must be?!

  • This is unbelievable! I bet there's gonna be a massive drop in the number of newborns being called Muhammed. Check this pic taken from www.babynamenetwork.com

  • Of course, using their own tortured logic all the children that voted for naming the bear Mohammed must be executed.

  • And the fact that a boy from the school said that when she asked what he wanted to name the bear, he said Muhammed because that was his name.

  • I understand their rage, what I don't understand is their violent ways and solutions...

A good defense for her could be that just as Muhammed is praised by their society, or their religion, the teddy bear is praised by the children. The bear is to be loved, and I think that teaches the little kids also to love Muhammed.

That would work, won't it, at least a little in her defense?

  • From my understanding she was teaching children about democracy, hence allowing them to choose the name of the teddy-bear.
If this is the type of reaction evoked by such a practice what does that teach the children involved?

  • This is so rump-backwards I don't know where to begin.
Anyone with an ounce of logic in their skull can see it, so I won't go about stating the obvious.

In Sudan's defense, she could have "received a sentence of 40 lashes, a fine or jail term of up to a year," and she got 15 days.
It was a big group of [bored? ignorant?] rednecks who were calling for her execution. May they get kicked in the nuts repeatedly.

It sucks that an obviously good-hearted person, who was going waaaaay out of her way to teach Sudanese children, has been subjugated to this terrifying circus.
The world would be a tad bit better without religious extremists mucking it up.
