Human Rights vs. Economic Gain

Because people need to think twice about these sorts of things... It's more than just us against them and their culture, and, um, treating women like crap. Our economy is dependant on not doing anything about this.

How can we be a free thinking liberal country when george w. bush runs it.

Human rights will always take a back seat to profit. I'm not saying this is the way it should be, it is the way it is. As long as our economy is market driven and our elected officials rely on corporate and special interest money to get elected, nothing will change. If you want real change, take the money out of politics.

It is my opinion that the problem lies within the idea that we want to have the best of both worlds. We want to have human rights in all their glory and fairness, and we want to have maximum profit so that we can grow economically.

For some reason, lots of people do not realize that most companies need to screw over a lot of people in order to turn a good profit. Employees will get screwed out of pensions and insurance. Customers will get screwed on both price and quality of produce. People who have nothing to do with a company will get screwed because they are in the way of the companies growth. What we need to do is create a balance between profit and rights and then say, "Alright, I'm satisfied with that." Unfortunately you have people on both sides of the argument who destroy the middle ground and treat it as the enemy itself.

I agree there should be a balance between profit and rights, but in the end human rights should always win. Actually, when rights are respected, profit is still possible.
