NASA unveils a clear map of Antarctica

Don't you hate it when you're looking at a map of Antarctica, and it's blurry and inconsistent?

So does the team behind LIMA (Landsat Image Mosaic of Antarctica), a map that is composed of high-resolution images from a NASA satellite. LIMA offers "accurate, true-color images of the polar region."

    • PAH! They've been around for hundreds of years! NASA is just catching up to the knowledge of our ancients.

No-one has quite solved the mystery of the Piri Reis map in which the north coast of Antarctica is accurately depicted. The map is from the 16th century - a time much like ours when the coast of Antarctica was covered with a VERY thick layer of ice.

The only way we can map Antarctica's coast is using very sophisticated sonar technology - beaming it through the ice. I think, if my memory serves me correctly, this was only done as recently as the 1970's, and yet this 16th century map had already depicted it.....

      Strange eh?
