Birth: it's a miracle. A rite of passage. A natural part of life. But more than anything, birth is a business. Compelled to find answers after a disappointing birth experience with her first child, actress Ricki Lake recruits filmmaker Abby Epstein to examine and question the way American women have babies. The film interlaces intimate birth stories with surprising historical, political and scientific insights and shocking statistics about the current maternity care system. When director Epstein discovers she is pregnant during the making of the film, the journey becomes even more personal. Should most births be viewed as a natural life process, or should every delivery be treated as a potentially catastrophic medical emergency?

i saw this movie...
it was beautiful, inspiring, and long overdue.
it raises many questions.
like- does the way our society handle the birth process
have a link to all of these new 'disorders' we are discovering in our children? hhhmmmm....
we have strayed a little tooooooo far away from nature
for our own good.
there must be balance.
for me, it was birthing my second son in water,
in the hospital.
it was the most indescribable experience i will
ever have. i went in knowing i had the power to
birth, just as GOD intended. i ran the show, not the
"professionals".
every woman has the power to do this ,
but only if she has the will.
the medical profession has helped tremendously,
but at the same time,
has tricked us into believing that we cannot do it
without them, without intervention.
nature knows better than any college graduate.
WE NEED TO BELIEVE IN OUR SELVES
AND OUR BODIES ONCE AGAIN.
WE ARE BORN TO PERFORM THIS MIRACULOUS ACT!
DON'T LET ANYONE TAKE THAT RIGHT AWAY FROM YOU. LEARN ABOUT THE BIRTH PROCESS
AND TRUST YOUR BODY.
please go and see this movie with an open mind.
spread the good word to every pregnant momma
you see!
thank you ricki lake,
for doing something so positive with your fame.
