"When he was just 14 years old, Malawian inventor William Kamkwamba built his family an electricity-generating windmill from spare parts, working from rough plans he found in a library book. In conversation with TED Curator Chris Anderson, Kamkwamba, now 19, tells a moving story of ingenuity and adaptation, and shares his dreams for the future. This talk inspired outpourings of support from the TED community and in the blogosphere."

This kid is such an inspiration! If he could harness the wind with what generally limited resources he had, think of what people with more resources can do! I love that he makes it sound like such a simple and reliable solution as well. Why can't those people in the major power positions have such an optimistic and sustainable outlook?

Here's a link to some other forms of wind power, in comparison this guy seems to have it sorted. Why can't he be in charge of Wind Power for everyone? He's obviously got his head screwed on!

Here's a good article form the Guardian about how wind power can be used without massive propellers blighting the landscapes and tainting public opinion.
That kid's incredible, by the way. -
that is amazing!! I would love to see a profile story on him! Very inspirational!

Very interesting. Good for him.
I've lived in Monterey most of my life and have never heard of TED.-
