The centerpiece of the bill is a requirement to boost automobile fuel economy by 40 percent to an industry average of 35 miles per gallon by 2020, the first such increase since 1975, when Congress enacted the federal auto fuel economy requirements................... If they filibuster it in the Senate make them stand up and talk for hours like they used to do. Let us see their true colors. Make the Greedy Oil Man in the White House veto it, then let him explain that to the people.

In exchange for offering early support for the bill, Nissan got an extension to their exemption from meeting fuel economies until 2013. Isn't that kind of contradictory? "We support increasing fuel economy if in return for our support, we can put off increasing the fuel economy that we support"?

Wouldn't it be nice if they reintroduced the electric car?
