There's excitement at a South African wildlife reserve as, less than a year since introducing a South China tiger breeding programme to the reserve, a cub is born. It is the first of its species to be born outside of China and gives hope that this species can be saved from extinction.

South Africa has a proven record of dynamic and successful wildlife conservation. There is every reason to believe that the tigers will flourish under their care and my hope is that one day, additional species of tigers might be saved from their plummet to extinction.
