Up to 60 million people in the U.S. may be infected with a parasite that makes cats more likely to eat them. Where did they catch it? From their cats. Research is still at an early stage on Toxoplasma gondii, which lives in cat stomachs and feces, but one effect of the parasite in rats is an attraction to the smell of cat urine. The parasite also causes slower reflexes and may be an explanation for "crazy cat lady" syndrome.

I don't know if infection with toxo is more likely to cause your cat to eat you, but it does definitely mess with the brain. Here is a photomicrograph of the lesions caused by the parasite in a cat brain. Bon apetit!
