What's Your Strike Plan?

The Hollywood writers' strike continues, as talks broke down on Friday. It's starting to look like we may be facing a long wait for normal TV programming to return. What's your strike plan?

(Mine involves Current--of course--a lot of season DVDs for my fiction fix, and an attempt to figure out how to read and knit at the same time.)

  • Honestly, if it wasn't for the strike putting me out of work, I wouldn't be here on Current so much in the first place.

  • Definitely more Current TV and probably abandoning tv altogether. You realise they'll just put MORE "reality" shows on, right?!?!?

    At least I have non-tv hobbies... :)

    Re: Writer's Strike Plan

I DEFINATELY see this as an empowering opportunity to restructure a traditional facet of media and in doing so redefine it. A station such as current is perfectly positioned to do just this.

In the business of TV (as we have seen with the music and movie industry) technology in combination with any media adds value, allows for a more personalized experience/selection (of content) for the end user, increases our options and taps into a collective conscience...people are sharing information and culture! This is what media has attempted doing for decades (only - - very few were sharing their visions with MANY!) Current is a mirror for said few!

    My plan?

    ...to contribute!

I am soooo down with this movement!
  • Netflix - Deep Space 9 at the moment. Always meant to see if that was any good. Now I will.

Here's a crazy thought. Lots of bored, not-making-money writers out there at the moment, right? How about we get some 'anonymous' fan fiction to create alternate endings to our favorite TV shows' seasons. Or maybe even seasons that never were. Might burn bridges, but I imagine someone could figure out a way to avoid that. And, it would get some TV fan luddites like me reading more. Always good for me.

  • I am so tired of hearing everyone guessing who is responsible for the writer's strike
continuing. We, the American public, are ultimately the ones responsible. We hold
in our hand, via the remote control, the power to end this strike. If we turn off the
t.v. and spend time with our families, doing RESPONSIBLE things, we would not be
giving the powers that be the power to prolong anything! Don't up the ratings of your
favorite shows. Don't buy the products that support the shows. If we show that we
don't NEED t.v. or movies, the strike will have to end. We will be taking revenue out
of the pockets of the AMPTP members and then they will have to negotiate or they will
be in the same boat with most of America and wonder where their next meal will come
from. They will only do what is right when WE do what is right. Writers and actors do
not have the power that the public wields. If you want the strike to end, do something
    to end it.

  • My plan is to watch the last episode of Grey's Anatomy and then I switch over to more movies and spend more time outside with my family than inside... I realized during this stike how much tv my family watches and well I think that it is time for a change... Who knows maybe I will get rid of the tv altogether... Exspecially if this strike continues on for much longer since no good shows will be on with the exception of Carrie Anne vs. Bruno...lol
  • I plan on having my daughter stay home from school for the semester as her father and I will not have the extra funds to support her college expenses while he is out of work. I wish one of those picketers or their supporters would stand up and support my child during this strike, why should her future be any less important than a writers?
