  • Nice intro.

My closest friend is a teacher and he lost his job because of no child left behind. He already has a Mater's Degree plus 90 credits with three years of teaching experience but is denied a license because he could not meet the hiring standards for "Highly Qualified".

Now he himself has to go back and take math classes again so he can meet the standards for the teachers in our state. These standards were changed because of NCLB. The result is that a lot of highly qualified people are not getting to be teachers because they cannot meet the standards. How do they expect the kids to meet those standards when highly qualified teachers can barely meet them?

In the school where he was teaching at they had two schools housed in the same building. One school was considered Title I receiving lots of Federal Money under NCLB to meet the standards, while the other school, because of it's specialized curriculum, did not receive one fourth of what the other school received.

In keeping with this administration's track record of naming things the opposite of what they actually mean, say, or do; we should rename No Child Left Behind to No Child Left A Dime.

The picture is from some guy named Jonathan from his public picasa foto gallery.
