Huckabee's answer to a CNN debate question shows what a breath of fresh air he is. Stating he did not think the question was appropriate for someone running for president shows he will not allow his belief in God or his thoughts on evolutionism vs. creationism affect all of his decisions in office, he must have satisfied a lot of people who were afraid he'd run the country solely using principles from his religion. His answer to the question was equally as amazing, showing how strong this man's beliefs are and what a great moral character and role model he will be for millions if he's elected. Thoughts?

he is the slickest of the snake oil salesmen

Totally! It seems that if one is willing to believe in God, they should easily accept creationism. What I disagree with is Huckabee's complete ignorance and oversimplification of the theory of evolution. He used the term accisent in his speech, which is preposterous. No one postulated that all this occured by accident. It was a natural process that occured without intervention; it was NOT an accident. Furthermore, Huckabee phrases it as"man descended from primates." MAN IS A PRIMATE! He also fails to recognize religion's effect on his political decisions.

A breath of fresh air would be a politician that would clearly and directly say that evolution is supported by mounds of varied evidence. There is no debate on evolution vs creationism if you're speaking about science. There is no debate, and hearing that would be a breath of fresh air. Hearing Huckabee saying he doesn't "believe" in evolution, like it's some kind of faith-based flippant idea, is more asinine than ... than hearing someone say Huckabee will keep church and state separate. (That wasn't meant to be tacit.)
Anything else is ignorant, profoundly stupid hogwash. Frankly, I don't want another ignorant, foolish president, and neither do the rest of the American public. Huckabee has less of a chance of being president than I do. He deserves to be roundly ridiculed. -
It's embarrassing how much of a part religion plays in American politics. Separation of Church and State has been completely obliterated in the present political climate and the focus on one's faith is impeding discussions about the actual issues that politicians should be concentrating on, like, i don't know, their domestic and foreign policy agendas. Errrrrrr. frustrating.
Oh, and Jamesia, let me just say "Amen," let the ridicule begin! -
I'm put off by Huckabee's answer that he's not writing the textbook for an eighth grade science class. His administration would be responsible for funding public education or helping to privatize it. I can just see the funding for private christian schools going through the roof while public school are hard pressed to find money for books. It'd be nice if he could keep his faith out of his politics but he hasn't satisfied me.
I agree with Jamesia. -
well, Huckabee's no fiscal conservative. all you have to do is look at the man's record people. In Arkansas they called him "Tax Hike Mike". I don't give a flying damn what he thinks about religion because it's not important. We need a President with a sound solution to the dollar crisis who will actually NOT increase taxes or suggest that people with AIDS be quarantined, which Tax Hike Mike has suggested. That President should be Ron Paul. have a good one.

Unfortunately we will need to increase taxes in order to remove ourselves from this national debt, that or we could always declare bankruptcy as a nation...

actually, Varex_Sythe, I respectfully disagree. The Federal Government is 9 trillion dollars in debt. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have been estimated to cost more than 3 trillion dollars. In addition to spending in Iraq and Afghanistan, we're spending billions more overseas. Upkeeping the more than 900 military bases in 130 nations, borrowing 3 billion dollars per day from foreign governments on credit and printing money out of thin air here at home at interest, on credit, in order to come up with money for the wars. If we completely reverse our foreign policy and bring all of that money home instead of policing the world and managing our empire, not only can we return a massive portion of taxpayer money back to the taxpayers, but we can phase out the income tax, invest in our own infrastructure (roads, bridges, schools, hospitals, etc) and technologies (such as green energy and resources), AND pay down the nation debt without raising taxes. So you see, our disastrous foreign policy which is unconstitutional and unmanagable is the cause of most of our monetary problems.

By "returning taxpayer money back to the taxpayers," what do you mean? That not paying taxes will make everyone rich? What we need is a social tax system based on individual wealth. The rich pay alot, the poor pay very little. This way, the wealth in America would have the best chance of evenign out, or at least stabilizing. Removing taxes all together will not solve anything. Many people rely on the altruistic principles of the income tax and the SS tax to live. Sure, it would be nice to get that extra couple of bucks, but it is a far nobler cause to use it to support others. This is where Ron Paul loses it. Being a libertarian, he cares not for the downtrodden, he merely concerns himself with himself. He is apathetic to all socialistic policies. He hopes to bring the boys home from the middle east, but who will support them with no disability benefits? It is a profound lack of forsight that causes this sort of thinking.

All I know for sure is, I can't STAND Huckabee! He consistently sidesteps issues. He's ALWAYS on the fence! We need a president who doesn't WANT to be president...
-
you keep sayin that dco but your flat wrong. the federal reserve is PRIVATE bank that has systematically taken away our rights and has introduced the IRS/Federal income tax which is totally unconstitutional and actually doesn't have laws to support them (you don't technically have to file for an income tax), do your research. futhermore, look at ANY other candidates voting record and you'll just see another lobbyist monster in another dress. honestly, i'd rather have someone who promotes a profound change in america than have all these empty accusations from corrupt politicians who only promote these half-a$$ cookie cutter solutions. furthermore, no one is suggesting to eliminate all taxes just ones that our unconstitutional. why is that so bad. if you were really interested in changing my mind you should stop attacking Ron Paul's character because anyone who has half a brain knows that Ron Paul is a sincere man. thank you
-
dco, again, your misinformation and blatant disregard for the facts astounds me. let's go through your comment, shall we? first, you say this: "By "returning taxpayer money back to the taxpayers," what do you mean? That not paying taxes will make everyone rich?"
I don't imply anything, I never said not paying taxes will make everyone rich so don't put words in my mouth. I don't care what meanings you think I'm sneaking in, the point is your money should go to you. That's the "meaning". And AGAIN, dco, you're going down the path of "all for the common good" and that jazz. unfortunately, you never rebutted the points I made the last time we sparred on this, so I'll remake them. The money someone earns is their money, it's not the Federal Government's job to decide what's best for society as a whole, taking people's money to spend it on as you would put it, "altruistic" programs. It's not their money, how obvious can I make it? Forcing someone to pay money to poor person voids the fact that it's a good deed. You seem to envision this utopia where everyone makes the same, you describe above about the distribution of wealth and everything will be rainbows and cupcakes. Well, your utopia is called socialism and its a crock. Um, who in the hell relies on the income tax to live? Do you know what the income tax is? The Federal Reserve prints money backed by nothing and lends it to Federal Government, on credit, at interest, which has to be paid back. The trickle-down goes to Wallstreet and Washington DC and guess what happens to that interest which adds up? It's called the income tax. The income tax is taken by the Federal Gov't to pay on the interest and debt accumulated from borrowing money from the Federal Reserve to come up for shortdfalls. And about SS, there are many older generations who have become dependant on SS, you're right, just like many people have become dependant on welfare. dependance is bad, dco. but I don't think we should just stop paying the older folks. SS needs to be gradually phased out and the first step is to allow YOUNG people who are paying into a system that will having nothing to give them when they retire to opt out, and save for retirement themselves. Surely you can't go as far as saying we need to force people to pay for a service that will run out by the time those people are supposed to recieve the service? And on helping the poor, libertarians are not the selfish evil people you make them out to be dco. They realize that the problem is too much government, not too little. If you'd listen to anything Ron Paul has said, he talks a lot about helping the poor and middle class. just not through grossly inefficient gov't programs. For example, the Federal Reserve cuts interest rates to help the economy when it's going down, like right now. Well, do you know how they cut interest rates? All that means is inflating the money supply. Its like when a car starts to slow down, so you step on the pedal, more gas into the system. The economy slows down, Fed prints more money, more cash into the system. The problem is that when you inflate your money supply, escpecially when its backed by credit and not anything solid (like our dollar), you devalue the currency. This is what's called inflation. We see the basic value of goods and services skyrocket, we see people's saving lose value no matter where they put it, we see prices go up, value of currency go down, and who do you think gets the ass-end of this deal? The poor. They get the shaft. While Wallstreet and DC get richer and richer and richer. I wish we could wake people up and realize MORE BIG government is most certainly not the answer.-

Zombie_loves_brains... if we reverse foreign policy, how will that bring in revenue?
The point in case is that those trillions of dollars are either already spent, or in the process of being spent. And that money is not being spent on something you can just take back to the store with a receipt and ask for your money back. In order to replace that economic bounty we have spent we will need to succeed on the world market. We are at the point where ceasing to police the world will not give us much economic benefit other than taking away the shovel with which we are using to dig ourselves a hole.
Now, as I see it, it is our government that has the debt, and if our government does not have the funds to pay the debt it has two options, one of which I will represent seriously and the other cynically.
Option one, increase taxes to increase it's income so that it can pay off the debt. Of course this would might also require a rethinking of our trade agreements so that our citizens can compete more effectively in the world market.
Option two, our government can have a bake sale in order to raise the funds that it will need to pay off the debt that it has acquired. Personally, I would love to see the results if this response was actually taken seriously.-

he's always on the fence, angelinah?!?!? WHAT are you talking about. There isn't another candidate in the world who is stronger in his convictions than huckabee. How about Hillary's flip flopping on immigration policy and foreign policy? or barracks... well actually he's been completely unimpressive in everything he says so there goes that

Another round LOW? Okee Dokee... A) I never said anything about flip flopping. B) I never said anything about Hillary or obama. C) I do not support Hillary. Huckabee BUGS me. His EXPLANATIONS are what I find to be insulting. For example...His explanation on why he doesn't support gay marriage, "we need to work on the marriages we already have." WTF kind of explanation is that? He doesn't always say what he means, which is why I say he's always on the fence. He often shields his position and/or beliefs with thinly veiled PC explanations. It looks a lot like BULL to me. Say what you mean, and mean what you say. You think that's REALLY why he doesn't believe in gay marriage? I think it could MAYBE be tied to his RELIGIOUS beliefs...Those were what you were referring to when you said he's "stronger in his convictions (than other candidates)", isn't it? I don't want a president who's gonna give me the old bait and switch. But that's just me...
