Today's debates "remarkably free of acrimony" - what it says about republicans, and democrats

Today's debates were very telling of the differences between the democrats and the republicans. The republican debate, 90 mins long, was completed with virtually no personal attacks. The candidates, instead, (take note here democrats) focused on the issues and telling people why THEY would be a good president, and what THEY believe in, instead of usually senseless attacks on other candidates, as the democratic debates are so often full of. This is amazing to me, so i thought id'd share it. Thoughts?

  • Just because it's free of attacks doesn't mean that they were answering the questions presented to them. They can't even take a yes or no question on global warming without pushing an agenda. Or, like Fred Thompson, they just outright refuse. Real Presidential...

Don't get me wrong here, almost nobody talks straight anymore. The few that do talk straight don't do it in the right context. I'm talking about Alan Keyes on the right and Mike Gravel on the left. I don't think that any candidate in either party can give a straight answer to a pointed question.

Any candidate can put out a commercial which poses a question they want to answer and then answer it in full but when it comes to debates it's always a race to see which candidate can espouse their platform first.

  • Republicans have always been better at marching in lock-step together with elbows joined. That doesn't mean they're nice or less vicious. It means they're saving their vitriole and lies for Democrats. Democrats tend to think more for themselves rather than follow a herd (or lemming) mentality. Plus you will make a very good Republican some day, because with your question already have fooled some people into thinking the Democratic debates were acrimonious when they weren't. They were quite polite; it's just that Democrats allow everyone to question everything, unlike Republicans who try so hard to convince everyone that questioning their authority is unpatriotic. But with Republican backbones that refuse to bend, and Democrats with no spines at all, where do "We the People" look for the leadership we need?

  • The republican candidates are a lot more diversified in terms of differing views than the democrats are. Look at Rudy, Ron Paul, Huckabee, and McCain

  • I gotta give you Ron Paul. He's a hoot.

  • that he is. i hate how popular he is on the internet and how much that DOESNT reflect how popular of a candidate he is

  • You're so full of it Low Flying.
Put a republican and a Democrat in a debate together and see who talks about issues and who does the attacking, at least 9 times out of 10.

  • The Democrats were on their best behavior today. I think that Democratics have done a terrible job in presidential debates against the Republicans for the past several cycles. If Democrats would fight half as hard for what is right and true as Republicans do for what is wrong and false, they'd win. Bill Clinton was the last Democratic master debater.

  • spoon,
Sadly, few people come along that match the caliber of Bill Clinton. A great debater and a great diplomat. Better than 50% of this country deserved to have as their president. He IS part of why I want Hillary Clinton as our next president, I know he would have a serious and positive influence, one that is much needed at this time.

Forgive me here, but, what Mr. Billy had in his pants could have done a better job than what we've had for the last 7 years. "A mind is a terrible thing to lose, A sick mind is a terrible thing to keep." :) But I wouldn't have it any other way.
