EU Leaders Sign Landmark Treaty

Goodbye EU Constitution. Hello EU president. The new treaty that will change the way members govern themselves. The treaty creates an EU president and a vastly more powerful foreign policy chief for the Union's 27 nations. At the same time the document scraps veto powers in many policy areas. It is a replacement for the EU constitution abandoned following French and Dutch opposition. EU leaders insist the two texts are in no way equivalent.

    • Although there are bound to be problems as there are with any cross boundry and cultural entity, the advantage is that we are "all together in no mans land".
any treaty that furthers co-operation against differences can only be for the good. The alternatives were fought out over the last century, resulting in two world wars. I think that people forget this, and the underlying purpose of the EEC. Anything is preferable to the spectere of european war.

    • This whole idea of linking the EU together was a mess from the start... for the economy and the people... They're all gonna fall just like the US economy fell. Just look at the predictions for germany.

Now they want to get together on foreign policy? Why? What good will this do them? There are already linked treaties and alliances that put them in different places. For example... not everyone wants to be allies with russia because of russian foreign policy. I congratulate switzerland for there choice to stay out of the mess and france and the netherlands for opposing this crap.

Is ease of crossing boarders and zero money exchange is where it should have stopped.
