In the current world political climate we're in, it is surely time for us to have the debate of whether the mainstream press are constantly proving Chomsky right? The link I've provided makes me think so.
His theories were born out of a time before the Mass Media had gotten quite so large and so influential, but crucially they were written BEFORE we had the luxury of the internet which we can now use to compare the Media to.
Chomsky's main idea is that the media system is controlled, not by force and oversight but through very complex and interesting relationships between televisions stations, newspapers, journalists and government. If you have ever frustrated and angered over why seemingly monstrous stories are left totally untouched by the press, then Noam Chomsky would happily explain to you how that is the case, and how the story was ignored. People who don't know Chomsky call him a conspiracy theorist, but if you read his books or watch his film, you'll see he is everything but a conspiracy theorist.
If you've got 2 hours spare this evening, I couldn't recommend his 1993 film "Noam Chomsky and the Media - Manufacturing Consent" highly enough. If you haven't seen it already, it will excite your loins at the truly wonderful opportunity that Current TV and Current.com are offering to the world.

The answer is an unequivocable YES, and Noam Chomsky has been telling the truth about the complicit mass media which also has blood on its hands for over forty years. Members of Congress call for impeachement hearings for Cheney and the MSM is SILENT. This is not Democracy.-

I agree I 've read many of Chomsky's books including this one and I must say he is always on the money!!!!!!! You should also read Chomsky's Power and Terror.

Chomsky is of course right, the question is not "is he right?", but instead "What's being done about it?" and I think current may be one answer.
