It's as Orwellian as it is inevitable: college students' behavior is being studied in unprecedented ways because of our beloved Facebook...

  • I bet researchers are thrilled with the hard data that Facebook offers. Instead of having to interview young people about their social relationships, it's all right there in a quasi-organized cluster for them to pick and probe. I wonder if the students of the unnamed uni know that their profiles are under the microscope. If so,do you think that they might curb their facebooking habits in some way? Or if not, is that not completely against research method ethics?
Facebook is indeed a gold mine of social activity. But is it really a new kind of socializing?

  • It seems that Facebook is not only being used as a research facility but also a checking up system for companies to 'spy' on their employees. The lesson to be learnt, don't use facebook...well not at work, and if you really can't ween yourself of the 'internet crack' then make sure last weekend's party photos are well hidden!
