Voting Machines Banned!

Finally a Secretary of State willing to stand for integrity in voting. Mike Coffman has set the state of Colorado on its head, along with some electronic voting systems manufacturers.

Don't you think the solution to this whole debacle is to require all electronic voting systems print out a paper receipt with indelible ink. The receipt should be able to be machine fed into a recount machine, should the need arise to have a paper count.

Or

Everyone should vote by mail, or by internet - Heck most of us do our banking, and credit card transactions via Internet, why not our vote?

What are your thoughts about this?

  • I think voting via the internet would open up whole new world of abuse. If there is upset and concern that Diebold voting machines are corrupted then throwing the vote online isn't going to solve the problem.

Good move on banning the machines though....has anyone seen this testimony on how a guy said he was asked to write software to flip the vote on voting machines?

I'm not sure on it's validity, I'm just opening the doors to the debate...

  • Good for Mike Coffman!!!!!!!!!

But, lets watch out for the next trick!

California's already done the same thing.

  • It frustrates me that the primary argument against decertifying voting machines is the expense.

What is truly more expensive, machines, or a flawed electoral system?

We need to be willing to invest in the people and the paper to conduct honest elections. The process isn't instant, nor should it be. Real power is handed out in the election process. The demand for instant results drives the use of these machines that can be so easily tampered with.

  • Jubal - I totally agree that a paper trail is the only way to validate the vote count, we get paper receipts from our ATM's all over the country instantly and we need to insist on a system that can be verified.

  • Washington state went vote by mail only and I can't say I approve of it. To many people just chuck bills and letters they don't want to deal with off to the side and sadly for many the voting mail gets tossed in that pile.

I don't know why the physical polls are getting such a bad rep but I do know I don't feel as safe voting by mail, a service mind you I'm even forced to pay for as Washington doesn't send out envelopes with postage paid. So now we are literally paying for our right to vote. And before I go off on that I'll stop as I think the point has been made.
