16-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant. The network that carries her show, Zoey 101, Nickelodeon confirmed Tuesday to People and multiple news agencies in a press release.

I am speechless...I just hope her family is providing her with the love and support she needs right now, without judgment...wait, who is the father!?

    • I don't really care what she or any other celebrity does, it doesn't affect me but I find it really unfortunate when things like this happen and yet people still say she's a role model for girls. What the hell? What kind of society decides that sluts and druggies are role models for the average person? People are so stupid.

    • I think it's safe to say that the majority of 16 year old who get pregnant aren't happy about it. Nor is their family. Well, why not? Because without money being pregnant (for the majority) at 16 means dropping out of school, welfare, extreme hardships from which the family may not recover, etc. So when Jamie Lynn is throwing a party to celebrate her accidental pregnancy it might strike some as insensitive. Like eating a sandwhich in front of a starving person (or a 16 year old mother on WIC struggling to get her GED). Now add to that the fact that many people can't get pregnant who really want to have a child! I have members of my own family who have been devestated by infertitlity, not because science couldn't help them, but because they simply can't afford to pay the 50 thousand dollars per treatment that would help them. But once again the celebrities don't have those problems. Pregnant at 16? Let's throw a party! No problems here. Can't get pregnant at 40? No problem! Throw a few hundred thousand at the best fertility doctor in the country and viola! Suddenly you've got twins. Or rather your team of nannies has twins to take care of while you spend 6 months in Spain shooting your next movie. It's just hard not to feel the double standard (or the reality of the "two America's" John Edwards talks about) when we see how awesome life is when you have money (and how shitty life is for those that don't).

    • People act like this is the first time a 16-year-old has ever been pregnant! I'm not saying it's right, but based on my own personal experiences, it isn't the first time this has happened - nor will it be the last.

My best friend got pregnant when she was 16 - 10-years-later, she has her own house, a great job and has done an excellent job raising her son by herself. As for me, I got pregnant at the age of 17, had my son shortly after I turned 18... went to college, graduated, have my own house, raised my son by myself, etc.

My point is... being a teenage mom wasn't easy. It's not something I recommend. I personally wouldn't want my daughter pregnant at 16 because it is hard. But it can be done - and we're talking about a celebrity here who has money - who won't have to go apply for food stamps, Medicaid or section 8 - who's baby will have the best medical care and educational opportunities in the world... this is a child in the womb that will already be taken care of.

There are so many people out there who cannot have children. It is my belief that a pregnancy and a baby is a blessing. So congrats to you Jamie Lynn. Everything happens for a reason and who are we to judge?

    • totally agree with you, crob. shame on celebrities who think they can do what they want, but what really bothers me are these judges who let them off so easily. thats our really problem! our system is messed up, if i did half the crap one of these "stars" did it'd get double the time and fines!

    • I think what makes this story interesting is that it seems to be yet another example of how the wealthy live in a totally consequence free environment. When a POOR 16 year old gets knocked up, the devastation is major. She will probably drop out of school and not go back. Her ability to care for the child will be limited. Can she afford day care? Will she be on WIC? Foodstamps? Can she even afford to KEEP the kid? Statistically she will probably earn a much lower wage throughout her life then the rest of her graduating class. When a poor 16 year old gets knocked up its just tears, fighting with in the family, and heartbreak all around. No one is smiling and issuing press releases about how awesome it is. When super wealthy Jamie Lynn gets knocked up it's a big joke to her because there are no consequences. She's got cash, a team of round the clock nannys to watch the kid, and all the options in the world. Consequences? What consequences? Just like Paris Hilton. Driving drunk with no license and no consequences aside from a prison sentence so mild that it actually generated headlines. Lindsay Lohan? Again, what consequences? She spent 45mins in jail. Or am I confusing her with Nicole Richie who also lives in a consequence free world? Or was that Britney who can pretty much do what she wants (including, oddly enough, stealing lighters from gas stations???) Hold on! I must be thinking of Barry Bond and Roger Clemens and the steroid scandal. Wait, unless those guys lost their money and went to jail since last I heard. Did they? Probably not.

    • Woody?

She's being "extremely brave"?? Are you KIDDING?? They had to announce it because it's going to become fairly obvious very soon. That's not benevolence. It's just PR.

And what exactly is responsible about a 16-year-old who practices unsafe sex with her 19-year-old live-in boyfriend?

Where do you see the "positive message" here? Is it "I got knocked up but I'm totally rich so it's awesome", or maybe it's "I'm, like, halfway through high school so I'm sooo ready to be, like, a mom".

As for credit...I'm not giving her credit for anything except forgetting the condom.

    • i mean i'm 16 - but it doesn't make me think ... hey jamie lynn got knocked up so i should too!

i think that this is definitely going to be a shocker to teens all over america because it shows that this happens to every one, even celebrities!

    • Ha ha! Taking responsibility? True she did not get an abortion, but lets give credit where credit is due! And that would be to the TEAM OF NANNYS that will be taking care of this kid whilst young Jamie Lynn goes back to doing Jello shots and photo spreads for Maxim. What? You thought she be a great Mom like her sister Brit? Being knocked up and filthy rich means never having to say your sorry or changing a dirty diaper. Sad but true. So, no, being a knocked up multi-millionaire and 16 is not quite the triumph of the human spirit as being knocked up dirt poor and living in the ghetto.

    • 1. Zac Efron is not the dad
      2. This is about Jamie Lynn Spears not Britney Spears
      3. She is being extremely brave by coming out, announcing it, and spreading a positive message for young mothers who choose to keep the baby and be a mother.
      4. Can't we give her credit for her that?

    • From TMZ... UPDATE: Nickelodeon issued the following statement this afternoon: "We respect Jamie Lynn's decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn's well being."

    • Wow, they're multiplying like Gremlins. Someone must have told them it's OK to have unprotected sex but ONLY BEFORE MIDNIGHT.

I'm joking - congrats to Jamie and this Zac Efron character... whoever he is!

    • Nickelodeon should cancel her show. Instead, they should run teenage-geared specials on teen pregnancy and safe sex.

      This is pathetic. I'm appalled.

    • I'm completely with you Tyrannus. It was weird...I was simply enjoying the Girl's Next Door on the E! channel when all of a sudden BREAKING NEWS!!

I almost had tears falling down my eyes from laughter when I saw it. I thought it was going to be something big like Bush was assasinated or iTunes went out of business, Steve Jobs hopped a plane to Aruba with our dollars!

I can understand the fascination with Hollywood as, at times, we all find ourselves interested in others' lives but for this to be Breaking News? Shock and Awe and offensive commentary below a too-hyped headlining story? It's become a bit too much.

    • Who really cares about Britney, don't we get enough of Britney in Main Stream media, do we really need to be Britneying out on the Current Stream?

I have nothing against pregnancy, I was actually born once, too. But Britney is a Media Manufactured Celebrity who is of little or not value to the future of our world or our lives. She is eye candy and she tittlates our ear drums. Big deal.

Why doesn't the media leave Britney's sister alone? Does Britney's sister want to become a celebrity in her own right? Hmmm
