This is interesting, I am all for pointing out the obvious cultural perceptions of the sexes
-
Women are trained to see themselves, in a culturally-provided mirror, as sex objects. She's taken that social demand much farther by producing this doll.
She's put the sexualized version of herself outside of her own body.
The fact that she's re-enacting rape scenes from other entertainment sources illustrates that rape identifies women not as people, but as voiceless sexual-use objects.
She nails it (so to speak) ... Applause! -
If someone did this with the intent to use it as pornography no one would pick up on Amber's message. This work can not stand on its own without an explanation and thus in my opinion is a failure.
However, the crap that she is attempting to explore is valid. Womans role in many societies is like that of a doll but she had Real Doll make this for her! If your going to make a statement like this don't hire a company who's business it is to make woman into sex dolls. -
Great work Joe!

It's great to finally see this. Good job Joe and Ian!

In reference to the censorship comment (which we believe is incredibly valid), the original creators of the pod did not alter the footage for censorship. For those interested in seeing a more raw version of the project, longer and without censorship a link will be posted soon.
- Thanks for all of your words. -
ok so what type of doll would you prefer her to use? can you think of any other type of doll that is as life-like, damned-near real and moldable as the one she bought?
-
Marriage and gender inequality seem to be really just the beginning of the(her) exploration. Oftentimes, women that are victims of incest at the hands of their mother have extreme issues or difficulties viewing and perceiving their body as their own. As well, some women have grown to actively participate in an incestual relationship with their mother.
Hence, it could be somewhat therapeutic to participate in a mock relationship with oneself given such circumstances. To be sure, making an item of "Art" toward such a subject is most therapeutic, because it can be described as a revelation to so many people that have no idea that such occurences are frequent in our society and others.
I could be wrong, but, I doubt it. -
i concur

I don't really get the point of this. Please explain... ???

I think that this is a brilliant way to get the point across about how women are viewed in various relationship and societies. Lovely!
