Good news polar bears, a Silicon Valley start-up called Nanosolar have announced they've shipped the world's first thin-film printed solar panel. They're selling for roughly $1 or 50p a watt - the price at which solar energy gets cheaper than coal - so it's got great implications for mass environmentally friendly, affordable usage.
The main problem preventing commercial exploitation of solar power is cost, but with their nifty new panels, Nanosolar reckon they've cracked that.

How do we use them when it's always like this... Can we have rain-panels for the UK??

Solved, we just outsource it to Africa.

What a great development! Now this is usually the part where Republicans come out of the woodwork and insist that energy independence (not to mention cleaner air and water) isn't necessary or a benefit to the US because "Al Gore is a commie!" (sigh) How can you argue with that?
