A judge in the US has upheld the right for a Google blogger to retain his anonymity, in the face of local officials demanding details of his identity. Should we be allowed to remain incognito on the web? Personally, I don't think so. I'm all for free speech - but if there is no real person at the other end of the conversation, there's too much potential for abusive, libellous, or incorrect posts...

I don't think the State should be allowed to FORCE someone to reveal their identity.
If the messages became hate filled or abusive then I think the police have every right to make an arrest.-

Well I think it very much depends on the situation. Unless the blogger's actions are illegal or constitute some sort of threat, I think the blogger's anonymity should be kept, as what valid reason could someone give to request that person's identity?

Anonymity is a very empowering thing to people. It gives them an ability to have a voice and to speak out without fear of direct retribution.
I agree that if someone is doing something illegal they need to be accountable for it. We expect our government leaders to be held accountable, everyone should be accountable for their actions and speech. Anonymity is a tool for speech and change.
