MBARARA, Uganda -- At the AIDS clinic here, the stories are brutal. A young cattle herder, infected with H.I.V. along with his wife, tells me that all four of their children died before turning 3.
A mother of five, also infected, reports that after her marriage she was forced to have sex with her husband's three brothers, in accordance with tribal tradition.

Man, this is sad. I used to work with a woman from Uganda. She left before she married and she was glad she did. She used to tell us stories during our breaks of how good and how bad Uganda was. She used to volunteer at a clinic there so she told stories of the people the came there. This story sounds so familar, so close to her stories. She's a nurse now.
