  • Great piece, Kier. Well done!
I see the property tax refund is the top link on the state's webpage... I assume government incentives like that don't discourage new interest in the state. What role is the state government playing in encouraging the population growth?

  • Kier:

Caught this late last night and was enthralled. I can empathize with the content: I grew up in small town Idaho, and my home town and its environs are being overrun as well. I thought that you were very objective with your assessment and personal opinion of the situation; something which I doubt I would be able to do myself. This was a very succinct, well-done look at a relevant issue in the Western US, and I thank you for your work.

  • Colorado 30 years ago. My advice, buy property in the growth pattern, eventually sell, buy prime property in Alaska, and move. Crested Butte Colorado is a great example of your excellent documentary.

  • You had great visuals to back up your story. I appreciate the fact that although you were in the story, you brought other characters in the story to have explain the situation. I would have loved to have met one of the people who are moving into the gated communities and new developments just to juxtapose them against the your other characters in the movie. I admire your willingness to stay in your hometown as they changes happen around you.

  • wow. i went to Eureka about 2 years ago for a summer art festival and was surprised at how tiny it was. i thought Whitefish MT was tiny! here in Whitefish we are also growing like crazy theres so much counstruction on our block. when i first moved here from Northhollywood CA i thought whitefish was too small and needed to grow but 7 years later i'm beggining to like the smallness of the town. i hope it dosn't get TOO crazy.

  • I can completely identify with this pod and I thought it was great. Coming from a small town and watching it be taken over by new people, I completely identify with where you're coming from.

  • This pod tells a very common story but with a new eye, a new subject, The landscape footage really woked in making us feel part of it. The interviews offered different perspective and views on the issue. Great Job!

  • deffinately is the best part of montana is the small towns like that and the only thing that ruins them is all of the big city people moving in and taking away all of the local resources that make that small town work like they do, and the next thing you'll see is big buisnesses taking out the local mom and pop shops.
it's nice to stay in small towns for maybe a weekend but not to build a house and stay there only for the summers.....its jut a waste of peoples time energy and esspecially a waste of land from their "homes" deffinately detracts from the beauty of nature

p.s. thanks for putting the big 406 on the map again bud!

  • just be careful of signing contracts if you are a buyer/seller, my brother almost lost $5000 reserving a house, the contract he signed had a clause that if he didn't show proof of insurance and a cashiers check with the down payment by a specific date and time the "reserving money" wouldn't be re funded, nice job of the Realtor for keeping it to the last minute. As long as you can use a lawyer you can trust and deal with the owner's lawyer you'll save even more than with geico :D.
