  • How incredibly sad.
Earlier reports had suggested she was ok, then news of her injuries was released and now this.

  • There's a compelling clip here from Sky News, reporting on what happened and her influence.

  • From your link:

"Sky News correspondent Alex Crawford said from Pakistan the country's upcoming January elections would "most likely be postponed or cancelled" because of the attack."....end of excerpt./////

Musharraf got what he wanted. This is so very sad as well as frightening. It's hard to be hopeful for peace in this world with events like this happening. My condolences to her family and those who loved her.////// http://tinyurl.com/252rj6
U.S. Special Forces are also going to arrive in Pakistan early this coming year. I can't help but wonder if that action was a catalyst of the events that have taken place.

  • We send our condolences and love to the Bhutto family. All of us here saw her as a beacon of peace for Pakistan and a tool for change in the government of Pakistan.

  • It's being reported that she was assassinated. She was fatally wounded after being shot in the neck and chest in the aftermath of the suicide attack.

The BIG question now is what is President Musharraf going to do? Does this constitute a state of emergency?

  • if it were not for our news medeia being controlled by big bisniss and big bisniss being a huge part of our own government ,things that take place in pakastan would never rivel the things that take place in our country.there was an anti war protest a fiew weeks ago in most majior citys in the u.s.but fiew know about it becaus the news didnt report on it, only the protest that took place in pakastan.if we as a country weened our selves off of forgin oil this would not be as big a story as it is now. and it should come as no shock to people following what gos on in pakastan becaus she had 3 previous atempts on her life.

  • The UK has condemned the killing and called for restraint. The Foreign Secretary said:

"Benazir Bhutto showed in her words and actions a deep commitment to her country. She knew the risks of her return to campaign but was convinced that her country needed her.

"This is a time for restraint but also unity. All those committed to a stable future for Pakistan will condemn without qualification all violence perpetrated against innocent people.

"In targeting Benazir Bhutto extremist groups have in their sights all those committed to democratic processes in Pakistan. They cannot and must not succeed."

  • Here is what The White House had to say on this matter.

  • With as much of our economic intrests being held in records in the sub continent we had better hope that some very cool heads prevail. If the Pakistanies and Indians get into it we will be faceing an economic meltdown that would make 1929 look tame.

  • nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!
    i wonder who planned this.
    it smells of schemage.
    yes i know that's not a word.
    i just made it up.

  • I have no words for that.
I'll probably feel sad about it after I'm done being angry.
Her whole thing was creating and promoting understanding between the East and West; whoever killed her would deserve a place in hell, if there were such a thing. This is quite a setback.

  • in response to VJFronk, whether this was the 1st, 2nd or millionth attempt on her life- the unfortunate outcome is that she is now dead. It is documented in such a way- not because broadcasters stand to make a profit, but because her death, the circumstances leading to her death and what we now all wait for - the response from the rest of the world are factors which will shape Pakistan and dare i say also the US's future with emphasis on its international relations.

  • This is just terrible and shocking. I'm losing my faith in humanity. Quickly.

My condolences to the Bhutto family and the Pakistani people.

  • I am personally very affected by this assassination - I met her in 1972 in Pakistan, and was very touched and impressed by her personality and intelligence.

  • I am tremendously bothered by this cowardly act. It is ironic that during the latest haj there was no attack against any Taliban practicing there faith. Combine this with the missile attacks on the sacred bhuddas built into the montains of Afghanistan is the last straw.

  • This is extremely sad that this woman who was simply fighting for the rights of her people to a stable and democratic nation had to die so violently.

I am wondering what the US president is going to say about this matter as his governance has so blatantly supported the regime that has influenced in some way this catastrophe. And you know, Bhutto was not the only one harmed in that attack.

    Her family....
  • wow...don't have words for the pain i feel.
not just sorrow but a mix of disappointment, anger, uncertainty, and regret. Bhutto's death is already affecting the stock market causing gold to jump substantially, i wonder what else is in store for this global economy?
this is a sad day for humanity...

  • in responce to natred,..so your point is you feel bad that a person you saw on the tv is dead? yes i feel bad when anyone dies, ime not for deth either..but while your feeling bad for her, we can allso feel bad for the 15 other people who died too. my point was that ive lived long enoughf to know that shes not the first person in the middel east to try to fix people that dont want to be fixed...she was a pupit of george bush and the statous qwoe.like the shaw of iran.while we in america bye into this democrasey thing we cant seem to be an exsample of it by living it.were a republic. remember your pledge ! or dont they do that in school anymore? we have HUGE problems in america now, bigger then you may ever realize at this point in time.we can not aford to fix the world when our own little world needs fixin.this whole middel eastern issue is conected to our FORCED dependencey on forign oil. other wize what happened in pakastan would not have an effect on this country.since every thing we see or hear on prime time tv is controlled by the rich, like drug componies and oil componies,(the comircal you see douring a news brawdcast) there going to spoon feed us what they want us to hear. by the way the econimy looks and our crumbleing interstructer, and a lack of concern from the people who controll us ,i think we may be more concerned about were your next meal might be comeing from rather whats going on in pakastan.

  • I admit, I haven't known much about Benazir Bhutto. I'd maybe hear a news clip or see a short interview somewhere. Even with that brief exposure I knew she was one of those people we are blessed to have in this world.
She did what we all should do. She spoke up for what was right for mankind shamelessly. All the while facing threats that are beyond unimaginable to me. If we all had her courage, just imagine what we could get done?
Sadly, as is often the case, I will learn more about her now that she's gone from us. But I already know I've found a new hero.

My thoughts and prayers go out to her family, her country, and every single one of us.

  • The disintegration of stability in Pakistan is troubling. What is going to happen to their nuclear bombs? Are they as secure as Pakistani's say?

  • I am absolutely heartbroken. And I'm scared...I'm scared for the future of Pakistan, for my family who lives in Karachi, for the hope that has been lost with this tragedy. I can only pray that the people of Pakistan can use this tragedy as a source of strength and unity in bringing democracy to Pakistan.

  • We need to increase the PEACE. America can do more for peace than any other country. We need to end the occupation of Iraq. Get political, let your local and national leaders know that you don't want to fund the war. Period. NO MORE WAR.

Or get used to stories like this on a daily basis. "Already used to it" you say? Did I mention this is the tip of the iceberg?

How can we expect peace in the world when our actions show that all we respect are bombs?

  • I know that state that Pakistan is in right now is horrible, and the fact that the people even revolt against their own government, but it's kind of funny in a mocking sort of way how lightly Bush took this news.
    zazzykat
  • President Pervez Musharraf condemned the attack as the work of terrorists and appealed for calm.

"This is the work of those terrorists with whom we are engaged in war," he told Pakistan state TV. "I have been saying that the nation faces the greatest threats from these terrorists. Today after this tragic incident, I want to express my firm resolve."

Musharraf did it. No doubt in my mind whatsoever.

    *closes case*

  • We should be revolting against our government!

  • christ it gets worse:

"said Bush, who looked tense and took no questions."

al Qaeda is a front, people. Pakistani ISI and others. look it up.

"The White House expects an open review of the assassination"

LOL. Just like all the other open reviews. Remember the "open review" of Pinochet? Just one of the many open reviews we never hear about again,

Amazing what is happening all around us. It is a world of wonder.
