Ecuadorian Cofan Indians are suing Chevron for the destruction of the Amazon River, and the jungle their ancestors inhabited for thousands of years. Cancer and other oil related diseases plague the Cofan Indians, diseases that were not as prevalent before Chevron traded land for cheese in the early 1970s. Hundreds of oil pits interrupt the jungle floor while Cofan children unwittingly swim in them.
The Cofans suit will likely become an international foreign affairs extravaganza. Chevron has powerful friends in Washington. Condoleezza Rice served on Chevron's board for 10 years. They named an oil tanker after her. Ecuador on the other hand, has strong political ties with Venezuela and Hugo Chavez. Together they told the United States to remove it's military base from Ecuador.
Meanwhile, the Cofans must prove the increased rate of Cancer is caused by Chevron. A task that should not be too hard based on the riveting images in this Democracy Now! video report.

I hope the Cofan Indians can prove cancer and oil related diseases were caused by the oil industry. It would only take 1% of oil business profit to be environmentally responsible as a business. They refuse to spend the money so they should get their hands slapped. Maybe they will get a conscious and realize there are consequences for greed and recklessness.

Ha! An oilman with a conceince? That is funny.

I guess that is why people need to continue to put pressure on the industry-to show they have no conscious. By this it shows there are still people who do.
