When conservatives failed to gather enough signatures to put a measure on the ballot to make legal domestic partnerships illegal, they decided to sue. U.S. District Judge Michael W. Mosman was sympathetic, and stopped domestic partnerships in Oregon until the validity of the signature count is analyzed. Judge Mosman was nominated by Bush in 2003.
