A girl unwrapped her iPod this week to find not a bundle of joy inside, not a masterpiece of design and technical engineering, but a renegade note telling her to free herself from the shackles of capitalism.

The note read:
"Reclaim your mind from the media shackles. Read a book and resurrect yourself. To claim your capitalistic garbage go to your nearest Apple store."

Merry Christmas, and Good Will to All!

  • probably damaging to the young girl though, more than likely made her despise the angle of what they were going for

should have shop dropped instead (that's more of a slow weening off of capitalistic natures) by loading the thing with music and designing it to be more personal reach to the recipient

  • I have an ipod and have never used the ipod store. I can't think of a device that has allowed more obscure music to become accessible to me, and the ideas that came with it.

  • I agree somewhat with the shopdropping note. I do believe Americans consume much more than what they should however, "To claim your capitalistic garbage go to your nearest Apple store." is a bit much.

Ninety-Nine percent of Apple Computer, Inc. donations go toward the democrat party or "blue" causes(buyblue.org). Apple does much through their donations of millions of dollars to bring about political change within the U.S.

  • "Ninety-Nine percent of Apple Computer, Inc. donations go toward the democrat party or "blue" causes(buyblue.org)." Yeah, and we can see where that's gotten them. And us. Dems are less effective as a majority than Republicans are as a minority. It's pathetic.

As for the note, I'm sympathetic with their cause, but I gotta say they could choose a better (or worse) company to target than Apple.

  • Yes, there is a lack of effect, but that can be said for all sides, democrats and republicans alike.

How is giving away massive amounts of money to support a cause you (Apple in this case) believes in pathetic...?

  • I agree with the note, there is some truth to the idea that portable music devices reduce the amount our young people (myself included) read. On the other hand, its not like I can read and run around the neighborhood at the same time.

I have an ipod (have for years) and I still enjoy reading.

What is the big fuss about Ipods anyways? What about walkmans? Why are we worrying about these new devices so much more than the old ones which have been around for decades?

  • I think this value lies in contrubuteing to a major corporation. It's about safe to say that Apple has a monopoly on the mp3 revolution.

But the anonymous witter is vindictive.
Who's to say that music isn't equivalent to a book. Music is an art form itself. You are capable to pick up a book, but who's to say every book is of substance? Or that every song is garbage.

    This does make you think.

  • There's nothing wrong with a silly note trying to save a girl from materialistic brainwashing. Music is art but reading makes you think and use your imagination. There's a big difference between reading to learn and listening to entertain. It couldn't hurt to have both............

    "Televised mass poison
    Spitting at the screen
    Keep the masses deluded
    With fabricated dreams" -Angelspit.............

Most of us are social slaves to the media and materialism. And yes that quote is from a song on my ipod.
