I love this idea! I think it's a great gimmick and yes, I'd definitely be more inclined to watch more hockey if there were more games played outdoors. Adding the elements to an already difficult and physically grueling game would be pretty compelling.
Oh yeah - the other thing that would help the NHL? Umm, get back on a TV network that people actually know and receive. This stint on Versus is depriving most folks of some really great hockey that's being played right now.
