Bravo! I love smart Texans.
-
That is so fucking great! ( i feel this is the right choice of words)
-
you gotta love it!
-
This is the same thing the extreme fundies do. This definitely doesn't make atheism seem like it's on higher ground.
-

Shoving atheism down our throats is no different than Bible thumpers shoving religion down our throats. But not all people who believe in God or a higher power are like that and they have the right to be religious and read the Bible (* and hey, why did they pick on just the Bible? what about torahs and korans?) just as people have the right to not do so. I don't find this impressive at all. Matter of fact, it gives atheists a bad name.

First let me say I am not an atheist. I also don't believe in the bible. I find this behavior disgusting. Disrespecting what others believe in and hold in high regard is not funny. You are free to not believe, but do you need to make an ass of yourself about it?

I see that this event is actually 2 years old! I am not really affected by the efforts of this group, but I must respond to a few remarks. to quarrygirl: I don't see how this is disrespectul as they are only suggesting that those people who have unwanted religious writings, and would like some new smut, they are offering a swap. It's not like they're going door to door after all!
To ssppeencceer: I don't see the word bible anywhere! only religious scripture so afaik they would accept B'hai, Mormon, Watchtower or any other writings on any religion so your comments are far afield. as far as shoving Atheism down your throat, looks like they are in a corner of the building, you should just deal with it. The are not forcing anyone to do anything.
To both calling this disgusting and presuming that their purpose is disrespectful, calls attention to your double standard. If you have the right to pass around tracts, go house to house cajoling others to join your religion, or your church more specifically - then surely they have the right to engage others in a discussion. -
Yep, makes whatever point they're trying to make invalid. Truly vulgar.
-
it's nice to see that current viewers are open minded individuals that can take a joke. I have hope for our generation!
Now, i must go hit up the local holiday inn. 300 rooms = 300 bibles = a whole lot of something something.-

Sorry, bad joke.

Oldman1: Aren't you also "presuming" that anyone who believes in the bible does this? And the posters you're talking to . . . what they've posted and your comments to them don't make sense?
-
Well done, m'boys! Those kids have no idea what the "adult" world is putting their beliefs up against, but all the same they're winning with humor (the ultimate faith-based system).

I think it's at least KINDA funny. I think labeling it as "disgusting" and "vulgar" may be going a bit too far. It's not as bad as all that! At worst it might be warrant a mildly annoyed eye roll (if you don't like it), but I give'em an "A" for effort. Humor is very subjective, ya know.

OLD MAN

wow .. bold statement. but only really benefits the themselves, doesnt do any harm- so the act itself is not bold at all. almost useless. 'smut for smut' = kinda genius.
-
ssppeencceerr is right.. you should be able to choose whatever religion or lack thereof you wish to. The thing that gets me 'cross' is when religions try to shove it down your throats, case in point: Jehovah's Witnesses.

Ssspppeeennnnccccerrrr:
The title of the article on this site says Porn for Bibles.. but look at the picture, it clearly does NOT say anything specifically about bibles. -
I find it kind of odd that Bible Believing Christians would be put in the same group as pornography admirers.
The Lord we follow has brought us out of that darkness and into the light. As far as believing in God; Satan believes in Him too. Although the devils' days are numbered! tom357freedom-

I wonder if the University of Texas in San Antonio would allow people to trade in pornography for Bibles on there campus. If religion is not your thing that is your choice. I think that any school allowing pornography to be distributed on ther campus is poorly run. Atheism and the exploitation of women are two completely different things. I am not sure by reading this article if this smut group is a-theist or just a-moral.

I know how atheists feel; personally, I think religious institutions, while they are a good way to unite a society and prevent them from dwelling on questions with no answers, are also a poison that, overall, holds back the human race, and prevents us from moving on to a higher spiritual and sociological plane.
I'd never call myself an atheist, though.
I'm all for spirituality, but I think building your life around antiquated Rule Books and Bronze Age ideologies is rather silly.
I think it would be a great thing if more people realized how backwards organized religion really is, and read a few history books that were written in the last 10-20 years.
In fact, it downright pisses me off when people choose to stay mentally constipated and spiritually warped simply because they are afraid to think outside the box - makes me want to spit bile at them. Sheep indeed.
But about these particular atheists...
Being a dick about something very rarely makes people want to see things from your perspective; all it usually does is piss people off, and widen the divide.
I think people need to concentrate on what they have in common, rather than spew bile because they disagree on what neither of them will ever truly know. -
A better and more effective tactic would have been to have an actual reading of the Old and New Testaments... because of all the die-hard "Christians" I know, which is at least 50% of everyone I've ever met, not a one of them has actually read any of the Bible (listening in a doze while a preacher reads aloud doesn't really count, because they never talk about hovering animal heads and swarms of insects and whatnot in church).
No one knows what is actually IN the Bible, because the stuff is completely nuts sci-fi fantasy hate drama that they all tuned out during Sunday School and then later were assured that everything is fine and God loves everyone and peace on Earth... the only thing more absurd than the Bible that I've come across is the Book of Mormon - talk about a laugh-out-loud good read! the hocus pocus of it all puts Lord of the Rings to shame! -
Oh LAS_Mag, don't hate on Joe Smith, he got disowned by his own followers before he could even really launch his religion.
After all, if you were G-D, wouldn't you want to pick your next prophet to be a semi-literate 14-year old from the bible-thumping upstate New York in the 1820's?-

Great idea! Trade your bible for porn! Congrats!
-
I can't believe no one's asked the most important question yet - what KIND of porn? Can you negotiate depending on what kind of bible you're turning in? I mean, if you have a copy of the Old Testament as opposed to the New Testament, do you get different porn?
-
there is some WEIRD stuff in leviticus
-
There people have to answer to God eventually, so I'll just let them be and try to work on my own sins. However they are making it difficult for other christians who are struggling with this.
