I'd never really put faith in alternative schooling, I went to a good school, got ok grades and trotted off to Uni, but I've always had a fascination with how alternative schooling is accepted by employers.
Check the link for an alternative school based in the UK, their approach to equality between students and staff is commendable. I know people that studied at the school, and although they don't have bursting academic CVs, they have great attitudes to the world and the people around them. -
how is taking a computer apart dangerous? It's interesting and a good learning technique. But dangerous?

This is so true! Kids are going to grow up a bunch of inexperienced wussies if we don't let them learn by doing. Kids are resilient and they want to learn. Keeping them locked in door with their plastic toys is not going to give them the stimulation that they need to grow and become fully developed human beings. I cherish every moment of my childhood because I spent most of it outside exploring and playing, and yes, even playing with fire. Yeah, I got bruised and bumped and burned on occasion but I survived... and I'm all the better for it.
