This is a short film advocating the importance of keeping waterways in our nation, more specifically the Chesapeake Bay, pollution free. The video features the youth's involvement as well as Maryland State Congressman, Chris Van Hollen's views and goals of the issue.

Pollution in the waterways is a mess. They say there is a law against this dumping but why don't they catch the people doing this? The video does a great job at making this problem known.

This video has really opened up my eyes to the pollution problem in our maryland waterways. Ive lived here well over a decade and i never really had any idea to the scope of the problem. Well done guys, hope some more people can see how big of an issue this is.

Great job. This really showed how unaware many students are about the problem of trash and its impacts on the enviroment. It also demonstrated the need for a regional media campaign to educated people about the negative effects of trash in different environments. It was also motivating to see young people really serving and making a difference.

This video documents a tremendous effort and more importanly, this video highlights the need to change socially accepted norms particularly focusing on our youth to achieve a sustainable impact.

What a great motivation to really consider what we are doing to ourselves and each other. It is refreshing to see youth concerned with environmental issues. Trash is not and should not be the "norm". The information given on this short film provides a great motivation for change. Change of Scene is truly helping to bring greater awareness to a huge problem while at the same time offering a statement of hope, if we all work together.

Good work guys...During the early days of Current.tv there was constant constructive feedback being generated by so many participating producers. Since the switch to current.com it seems as if that community and that feedback has disappeared. So being old school let me offer a couple of thoughts.
Current always likes pods that move along. I think you could cut this to just under 5 minutes, use three music cues instead of one, (that will keep things fresh) I know you used a new track at the end but I think it was too late. By using 3 it will move the piece along and keep it fresh.
I wouldn't mind hearing what you guys have to say about this problem as well. Why did you decide to shoot this pod? What did you learn from the project? Current loves stories where the producers involve themselves and share their own thoughts about the subject.
But great work, lots of potential. I like how you got candid interviews with students, a very real approach. Thanks for sharing the link, hope to see it on air. GL -
The day this film was made was the first time I had been out on the Potomac River cleanup. I will go again - but most important we need to recycle or compost much more waste so it does not find its way into the watershed

There is great momentum building to achieve a trash free Potomac River by 2013. To do this, we also need to achieve a Trash Free Anacostia River, as the urban Anacostia contributes an enormous percentage of pollution to the Potomac and to the Chesapeake Bay. Last year, the District of Columbia and the State of Maryland both listed the Anacostia River as "officially" impaired by trash. Now, there are efforts underway to create a plan to remove this impairment (the trash) and keep our waters trash free. This is only the second river in the country, behind the Los Angeles River, to be "officially" listed as impaired by trash. We must all keep vigilant and work to raise trash control to a higher priority level. While trash is not the worst water quality pollutant, it is the one form of pollution that everyone understands. Everyone recognizes what trash is, and it will be much easier to galvanize broad public support behind trash than it will be to get folks to buy in to controlling more "obscure" pollutants like sediment and nutrients. Once we implement measures to control trash, we will be capturing other pollutants as well, since stormwater runoff is the vehicle by which the majority of our trash ends up in our rivers. Capturing stormwater in order to filter out trash, is the key to keeping our waters clean.

The opening tractor scene with the music is great for me; it kind of slows you down and gets you to think. It's good to hear the different views about the Chesapeake - even though many are apparently un-enlightened (!) about the pollution status of the Bay and what it's done to crabs and shells. It's good to hear that at least some (including politicians) are working to change things .. but a lot more needs to be done. The drainage area of the Bay is huge; I think it drains a lot of 4 states - including a lot of cow pastures in Pennsylvania. That a couple of high school guys put this together is a breath of fresh air.

Awesome job of capturing the real problem of pollution on land that eventually flows out into the waterways. This issue needs to be elevated to a much higher level and I hope your video can be the bridge that allows the issue to cross over and gain the exposure it deserves. Great cause! Great video!

I actually participated in this event and think this video really helps sum up what we did. It is good people are attempting to raise awareness on this huge problem. It is much bigger than this video can show but this video is very well done.

I was very suprised to hear how many students did not know about the pollution in the Chesapeake Bay. This just proves how important it is to show this video to more people. With more people aware of the problem, more people will be willing to make a difference. The producers of this video are very right when they say that our environment needs "dreamers who do".

This is very fresh! Many different types of people and their knowledge and comments are given a voice. To me, this movie demonstrates the power of education and knowledge. Many people don't know there is a problem until it is introduced to them by the media, word-of-mouth, teachers, supervisors, and/or parents. The more peolpe that can be reached and educated, the more people will become involved whether it is directly at a source such as litter/trash in the streets, workplace, school) or indirectly as in how they chose products -the amount of trash it creates - and changing reuse or recycle habits. Well done!!

Thank you for a very thoughtful and well presented document. It is refreshing to see a document that presents an alternative to complaining.I also like the fact that there are all ages represented, an issue that impacts us all. Especially the future generations.
Thank you.-
