This Pod is an excerpt from the new feature documentary The Listening Project, a cinematic journey around the world in search of the meaning of America. The filmmakers follow four unique Americans through fourteen countries in each place asking, "what do you think of America?" The ultimate result is an exploration of the meaning of citizenship in a globalized world. www.thelisteningprojectfilm.com

this video is terribly biased! you have only 2 or so people saying good things about the US. this could be because you are trying to show how there are only a few of people in the world with positive things to say about america or it could be because you only showed a few to get the message you wanted. I think it is the second of the 2. for one it is completely forgotten in this video that america is the largest provider of aid to the world. we try to help all those who need it. after the tsunami in 2005, the earthquakes in pakistan, and numerous other disasters, who was there to help these countries with shiploads of aid and support.....america. aside from this, we have to understand why people may think that america is only looking to spread its power throughout the world on a daily basis. i think it has a great deal to do with the globalization of american corporations that may make it seem like america is trying to increase its power. what is not understood in many of the developing countries, where this may be the dominate view, is that many, if not all, of these corporations are either franchised or sanctioned by the country's government! the major power that we have aside from our military might, is our capitalist economy which is based on a loose market system in terms of building a company where there is a demand for the product that the company produces. if there is no demand, there would be no company, so these people have to take a good look at their world and how things like this work. another thing that caught my eye and ear was the man from Kabul sayng that if america wants peace with the arab world we must respect thier religion. now come on, you cant convey the idea that america has invaded Iraq and Afghanistan because they are islamic countries! In fact the people in these countries have more religious freedom after we invaded than before! so, this video is horribly biased and cannot be seen as a fair representation of how the world sees america. oh, and by the way, the production of oil in Iraq is much lower than it was before we invaded. if we did invade for the oil, dont you think we would have taken it and left already? i mean its been almost 5 years and the crude oil production is just finally getting momentum thanks to the insurgency (and it is not only going to america.....it is part of a fledgling market economy meaning it goes all over the world like oil from every other oil producing country). these are only a few of the problems i saw so please take this video off the air, edit it, or at least add a disclaimer. i love the channel but current TV should be at least a little less biased if it is to be seen as a viable source for news.

I agree completely with Eaglesfanone. I love Current TV and what you guys are doing, but I am seeing more and more of how America is being made out to be this overshadowing monster that is out to control the world. Now granted our government is not the greatest, but we are the most powerful nation in the world; so why do we have to apologize for that. I understand other countries view us as they do as shown in this pod, but what about those who don't? Look how many people come to this country EVERY DAY who are looking to have a quality of life and to make a life and opportunity for themselves.
I really feel Current needs to keep doing the good work you are doing with showing the issues that are not in the everyday media. We also need to show that America is great and the steps we are taking to make ourselves better and what we do to extend our resources and help to other countries. America is the greatest country and we need not feel bad for that.-

Graphicdesign79...you just kind of dispproved both your's and Eaglesfanone's points-of-view. You say that America is the greatest country in the world, but you seem to forget that it's that exact kind of attitude that makes other nations hate us so.

ok whoaa peoples. yes cockyness has been one problem for other countries/peoples but the fact of the matter here is the message that america is greedy, power hungry or imperial, and a general detriment to the world is the only message that is coming from this video. these facts go to show that this video is disgustingly biased and should only be seen as opinion and not news. I just kinda thought that Current TV was supposed to be a newsish network, not one for people to spread false ideals. still, i gotta say, love ya current :-)!

Just watched this pod on TV and thought it was pretty interesting. Not surprised with what most people around the world had to say about the US.....and I actually agree with most of them.
That being said, I feel that many peoples around the world heap too much criticism on the US, when the blame really lies with their incompetent governments. Often, they are unable to speak their minds about their own governments for fear of repercussions, so they vent by criticizing the US. Their governments, usually our allies, often subtly encourage this as an outlet for anger, which they won't tolerate if directed at them.
Also, would any other country in our position act differently? Unfortunately the nature of power is to accumulate. The logic holds that if some country is going to a global leader, it is best that it is us. I believe every nation would follow this logic if in the position of the most powerful state on earth.
Nothing wrong with being idealistic though. The simple fact of the matter however is that all nations are self-serving, otherwise they would be betraying their citizens. For example, all countries that contribute development aid around the world do so with the goal of approving and funding projects that are carried out by their nation's companies. Australia, Japan, the UK, all EU nations, Canada and nearly everyone else involved in international development have these policies, but it is often easier for the uninformed global citizen to roundly criticize the US for doing the same thing their own governments are doing, and their own governments certainly aren't interested in correcting their misperceptions. -
I thought the pod was brilliant. There are positive things about the U.S., but the negativity of it ends up hurting other countries more than it does us. It seems like there's only a few minor problems if you're the one in a position to ignore the influence the U.S. has. Stop selling other countries short and thinking that they need us as much as we make it seem.
The video is honestly how a lot of people view America, and that's no secret if you visit other countries.
We may be powerful, but we're really not greater than them. All these people from different countries more accurately match how the U.S. seems to me; that's all I'm saying. -
As long as you see others in the world as spiritually, culturally, or in an ecomomic sense inferior you will always see yourself as "greater". Until you realize that this is a World community and not just a U.S. community your lenses in which you view the World will be forever fogged over with your mono-centric point of view. Become an exchange student and see the World and you will realize this video is not as "bias" as you may thiink.
Kudos for the pod!! -
I think this excerpt is compelling, and I'm looking forward to watching the full-length doc. a pod featuring views from around the world is exactly the kind of thing that I like to see on Current.
job well done.-

This video, whether people in America agree or not, is the honest truth. The people in other countries do not want our help. They want us to respect their religious views, their right to privacy, and their traditions. We're going in there trying to do all this good when it's not wanted. It goes both ways. I understand why we're doing the things we do, but I also understand how annoying it is to have a someone come in and tell you that you're doing everything wrong. There is corruption all over the world. Not just America. But we're in the spotlight.

This is a great pod. So very insightful. It's produced in a way that shows the general views of a majority and not in a way that could be misinterpreted as as those of a sponsor or solely of the producer / particular party.
A very divisional topic, very well handled and presented.-

it's not what one or two people it's everybody in every country think negative about the USA
-
can i ask how it is a "biased" ?
i mean, if this is what people are really saying out there, than that is what is being said.
i highly doubt the people who created this doc. sat around and waited for people to say horrible things and then edit only those things into the film.
i think you need to understand that people around the world generally do NOT like the American government at this point. Do what you want with that statement, but it's the truth.
I spent 2 years in China and Thailand and I can say that from all the people I met from all over the World not one of them said "The American government is doing a great job" and frankly why should they? Yes, i have heard some nice things about American people, but never about our government.
Since when has closing your eyes to the problems our government has created or refuses to deal with a good thing? This government is NOT perfect, and realizing that is not a un-patriotic thing to do, trying to change that is the right thing to do.
Think what you will, but this doc was not biased, it was honest feelings from people around the World, and if thats too much for you to hear, i suggest you never leave this country.-

Regardless of how this pod was edited, the words that were shown came from peoples' mouthes. Like many countries, America has it's good, it's bad, and it's horrible attributes. And I, for one, am happy to see this pod, especially the negatives. World opinion about our country is extremely important, and our government and media hardly give us useful information on that front. The other night, George Bush told Bob Costas that America doesn't have any problems, and the media always usually these kinds of stories by giving us unnecessary commentary and stats to try and wrap everything up in a package. The bias in this pod comes only from the editing. If you think we need to be seeing more positive views from around the world, go interview people and put together your own pod. I'd be equally as interested in watching that.
