  • For once i agree with Philly. It's not an issue of feminism when a woman wants to model, its just them wanting to model. Now, whether or not the girls feel much more comfortable about themselves for doing this is up to them, but really Suicide Girls is a lot like a Deviant Art with more Myspace/Facebook elements.

    sorry homies but i've been a chick for awhile, and getting nekkid on camera is not empowering.

    to each is own and i'm not hating, but one should really try not to confuse erotic power with real world power. being sexually 'liberated' by disrobing on camera (a la girls gone wild, suicide girls, playboy) does not a liberated women make.

    ad PS-- the whole point of feminism was to liberate women from the madonna/whore duality and make them equal to men inasmuch as they were free to not simply be treated by men as sexual objects and/or mothers.

  • BAD! BAD PHUKNA! You should feel ashamed for mentioning Gigli at anytime. Now, go burn your fingers. Off. Back to the topic at hand, I feel its unfair to automatically assign Suicide Girls the same Genre as Play Boy, and certainly not GGW. The latter is plain drunken exploitation. Playboy gives their models copious ammounts of money for their shoots. SG is the choice of the woman who models, and the choice is to say "I am a beautiful woman, let me show you." In a way, they are forcing themselves upon the public on their own terms, and that is somthing that you cant say your proud of.

  • you're right: not AS bad as GGW or Playboy, but the basic principal is the same. SG just covers the whole 'pay to see hot chicks naked' thing a bit better with a hipper image and a slightly more humanising user interface where you get to 'know' the girls or whatever.

    i don't have a problem with girls going naked if they want to, i just dislike SG cause there's a false veneer of feminism, and i find it misguided.

    and they'd do a better job at 'redefining beauty' (whatever the hell that means) if they featured some non-white, non-hot or non-skinny women on the site- which they rarely do.

  • if taking off your top makes you feel sexually "liberated," here's an idea: pick up a camera and photograph who YOU want to see naked. there's no liberation in being a sex object; only in creating your own sexual universe. btw, "Female Chauvinist Pigs" is a fantastic book.

  • After reading some certain comments here alot actually made me laugh... with the whole "it doesn't have to end with the clothes off" "pay to see woman naked" ect... because if you actually look into it and are a member of suicide girls you will actually see that not all of them do model naked and it isn't a necessity to model naked on there either, it's just that certain woman do choose to. I used to do modelling on there and i never did nude modelling. It is also a site to meet people, it's not all about modelling nude/clothed either, there is actually more to it than that.

    Where as i do agree it isn't a statement of feminism it's more a statement of the fact that people with piercings and tattoos or any kind of body modification can also be pretty, where as most people pass by and think"oh you look a state"

    To Saskia: You mentioned about non white, hot and skinny woman being shown on the site... well there are actually alot of differnt raced woman on the site, you just have to bother to look, i'm neither hot or skinny.... and i'm on it, i know many people also who model on there who are not skinny, hot , or white... But as i said it's just a fact of looking into it.

  • I like SG. If those women want to take off their clothes for the camera then that's their choice. I say do it in the most tasteful and classy way you can. They are covered in art(body modifications) and are art themselves. I prefere the alternative pin up to any other kind of modelling. There's no standard mold they have to fit into. It's not porn in this case either.

  • i dated a former suicide girl and she told me how SG makes you sign something that forbid you to do anything with other photographers and they take all the photosets you hand in and pump it out without giving any residual pay. sounds like pimping to me.

    SG even goes as far as suing their models and trying to shut down other naked tattooed chick pay sites.

    honestly, SG took away the hotness of tattoos and piercings for me. now, i only really check out hot nerdy girls. maybe i'll start a paysite of naked librarians, nurses, and stewardesses...and news reporters.
