Glad I saw this before I found myself in Spain paying to do something that would just bum me out and that isn't really any more "Spanish" than the rice at T-Bell apparently. At least the Romans used tigers and played fair. Boooo. Good video.

I've been curious about bullfighting ever since I read The Story of Ferdinand back when I was a kid. Here's a wiki on the history of the sport, the controversy, and how it's developed today. I don't think I could watch a bullfight. Thanks for putting this on Current. GL!

thanks for uploading, awesome pod // some traditions best expire, were in 2008! it may not be traditional in Catalonia, it certainly is in the rest of the Iberian Peninsula and Andalucia. I say Zapatero bins bullfighting and keeps other more 'balanced' traditions such as the San FermÃn festival (from July 6 to 14) in which the running of the bulls through the streets (or encierro) is one of the main attractions. This way, the bull has same chance of stomping on us!

This looks and sounds like a child made it. Aren't there any standards here?
Bullfighting is a cruel sport. It must be fought with truth, not slanted propaganda. Lies, exagerations and part truths like these are not needed to demonstrate the cruelty of this bloodsport.
It is easy to hate bullfighting if you think bulls are drugged, they are bleeding for days, & it's only for tourists - and Latinos are stupid and let white people manipulate their culture. These are myths however and long ago proven false. Spreading them again does more harm than good to our movement. When people find out it's lies, our movement loses support.
Often it's rich Americans that spread myths about bullfighting so they can pretend its worse than the meat industry. They want to eat their meat, wear their leather, eat their sushi, and pretend they are part of a social cause. It can give an empty life meaning overnight but it's a joke. I recently saw a video like this on youtube that was so slanted with old sensational arguments, it was laughable. Good thing they took it down. We need real journalism here to end bullfighting. We need commitment and sacrifice.
We don't need spoiled gringos. That is what has killed the anti-taurino movement in the past. Why do you think the bull business is bigger than ever? Because as long as the meat, leather, fish, and fur industries exist, propaganda shortcuts to a social conscience are dishonest, AND they are dangerous to those truly dedicated to ending cruelty to animals.
Stuff like this actually hurts animals because you have taken the easy path by spreading outrageous sensational myths. Bullfighting is cruel on it's face, it doesn't need amateur myth spreading.
Until you have cogent well researched arguments to combat bullfighting, please protest the meet and animal skin industries and the millions of fish that are suffocated each year for your sushi. Confront accessories to murder who wear leather. Millions more of God's creatures are killed for those industries, and they are treated far worse than the toros. Far, far worse.
Worst of all, it is the most RACIST and paternalistic thing you can do to suggest that Latinos only fall for this due to some gringo conpiracy. That's offensive but I'm sure it makes you feel good. Are we simple people that can't even develop our own culture? You have meat, leather, fish, and you are worried about our bulls?
Do we need you and President Bush to pulll our puppet strings? One gives us bulls, the other saves us from them?
Give me a break you arrogant lazy spoiled brats. Cruelty to animals has no borders. Join the fight against meat. Your laziness will kill the anti-taurino movement again and leave us worse off than before. We don't need it. I'm laughing at the thought of Mexicans having the time, skills, and energy to drug bulls, and put sand bags on them. Think about it. It doesn't happen. You haven't seen it happen, you've only heard it happens. You want it to happen. But it doesn't. Trust me, I've been through all this. -
Tepozteco, you sound bitter about more than bulls. Anyone who's been to Barcelona can relate to this pod's view-point. Current TV's all about perspective... enjoy those that aren't your own. Your insults lesson the credibility of your response.

look up desegual clothing, they fight the same fight. Well done.

Wow, that makes me so angry! I want to let the bulls loose with the "brave" matadors and give them revenge. Damn. Who gets pleasure from hurting an innocent animal? Who gets pleasure from watching this sort of thing? My first year in college I heard a professor say, The way someone interacts with animals shows how they feel about people. I've always remembered that and I think this video shows just how awful anyone invovled in putting on these shows is.

what makes that particular sport even more needless is as the protestor said - bullfighting is not Catalonian culture.
