By now all of you should have heard of Cloverfield. This is the first big production movie that was shot directly with a cheap Sony video recorder. It was released on the 1st February 2008. What are your views about the movie?

I'm definitely off to see this when it's out.
It's had really good reviews (both from the press and my friend David) and the fact that Lost's J.J. Abrams is involved is a big draw for me. -
I'm a huge fan of "Lost" but I think I'll give "Cloverfield" a miss. Here is the Current Lowdown.
PS: "Lost" season première tonight! -
Apparently the director is already in talks with Paramount to make a sequel. Personally this doesn't look anywhere near as good as Dragon Wars (D-War), which, frankly, is the best thing since Citizen Kane.

at last! i have been following this with much anticipation for several months since before they put the trailer out. i fell -admittedly- for the buzz-inducing method which is becoming very typical of abbrams, the new king of the narrative & cinematic tease, whereby you are given as little information as is physically possible, but always just enough to whet your appetite. my curiosity deepened with the initial lack of title; until quite recently even imdb had pencilled it in as simply 1-18-08.
since by the looks of things the whole movie was shot on a sony handycam, there are going to be obvious comparisons with the blair witch project. i just hope the guy behind the lens remembered to put the anti-shake on that bad boy, otherwise we're in for another bout of motion sickness. also, if it's all supposedly captured in real-time, has he got a rucksack full of spare batteries?
regarding the trailer itself, thank god there was no "massive eye" shot, as in godzilla! at least the big scary roar gives us a clue, so it seems safe enough to swing with the general consensus that this is indeed a monster movie. so what the fuck did rip the head from the statue of liberty? knowing abbrams, it is likely that we will never actually be shown.
i for one am looking forward to finding out though. or not, as the case may be...-

It looks cool and if reviews are anything to go by, then this will beat being another notch on 'binge drinking's' bedpost come Saturday night.

If you like the camera work on "Friday Night Lights", you'll love this film.
