  • This is what's wrong with it - Pete Burns!

I can understand why people want to look better, but to me, this picture alone is enough to put me off for life!

  • Accept that muffin top! that was beautiful.

  • Albino Chucky... ha ha ha that's funny. DUH plastic surgery is obviously NOT a positive road to go down, at least as a society. Everyone has their reasons, and I'm sure plenty of times they are valid, but what if there was another path? Where would self acceptance lead? Where would we end up if we valued the intangibles as much as we value a huge rack? As it is, we're all gonna' be cyborgs soon! (Okay, maybe not, but MAYBE!)

  • i think reconstructive plastic surgery is fine, but as far as cosmetic plastic surgery goes, too many people in our society have body image issues and insecurities that lead them to cosmetic plastic surgery. I agree with AngelinaH. If we valued intangibles more than materialistic things, the plastic surgery industry probably wouldn't be as profitable.

PS. that pic of pete burns is highly disturbing

  • Plastic Surgery is cool to me, some people seriouisly need it. Ofcourse the media helps with our acceptance of it but hey it's America, anything goes. {I could use bigger boobs} =]

  • The pressure from our society to constantly watch our weight and to constantly look "beautiful" is so distorted. It scares me knowing that our future will be struggling with these Images.
I plan on moving (preferably) to central america and raising my children away from this type of society where they can love themselves for how they are.
Kids at 12 years old shouldn't be worrying about their weight or thinking they need to get a nose job..or a boob job.

  • For die-hard Stephen Colbert fans, the music at the beginning of this piece just happens to be the same music Colbert used in his 2001 field piece for the Daily Show, entitled "Connecticut School of Broadcasting."

Pay attention at about 0:50 onwards.

Don't ask how I remembered this....

Glad you guys liked the pod and got something out of it.

  • I think Viacom has a deal with APM too...I've heard many songs we've used in pods on shows on Comedy Central and MTV....

  • This worked really well as far reiterated the influence of media on people. The transformation of the girl was hilarious. It's so sad, that people can't just be comfortable with themselves. You would think people would learn to just be comfortable with themselves after the death of Donda West! I thought the piece worked well, however I would have loved to hear from the person who had it a little more. Or maybe, see a person who was on their way to getting it. I think it would have helped to connect to the piece better, on a more emotional level.

  • We live in a beautocracy where symmetry and sex appeal matter more than merit. The only way to change this would be, as a society, to stop placing sooo much emphasis on looks. What is the likelihood of this happening? About as high as the chances that Michael Jackson is still an African American male.

  • Nose: too nosey! So funny. Love it.

I have considered plastic surgery, I would probably do it if I had more disposable income. But of course, there is always the possibility of a botched operation, and that scares me more than wearing bigger jeans.
