So the NANO is being released in India, where 7 out of every 1,000 people have a car. If this car is released and becomes more available to the consumer; doesn't that mean increase in pollution, increase in need for resources, etc. I am not sure making this car more available and affordable is going to be to good for the world in general.

Its all bad for the enviro since the car is made almost entirely out of plastic and in a region where emission standards are low. Demand for oil is going to go through the roof in India. You remove emission and safety standards and what you get a plastic go-kart called the Tata. Can't wait for the lawsuit to come in from Apple regarding their use of the Nano name. Also the 2 cyl. motor only gets 54 mpg??? The real question is Will it Blend? ®

Woody you are SO right. The implications of a car this cheap are frightening, in more way than one. The availability of a car this cheap will add exponentially to pollution, in addition to raising demand for fuel on an international scale. You know what that means... But there's more. Put this car through the safety tests and see how well it fares. I've seen the crash footage for a car in this price range...it's not good. Not to mention the resources wasted in manufacturing throw-away cars. This is an example of one of the biggest flaws in capitalism. Rather than working within a society to move forward, we profit whenever and wherever possible, no matter what the cost.

Suuuuu Weeet, now I don't have to worry about getting hit by all the bike traffic next time Im in Dehli. I wonder what the pre-reqs are to drive there?
