Neapolitans have clashed with police over an ongoing rubbish row in their city. Responding to the emergency, Italian Prime Minister Prodi announced 3 new refuse incinerators would be built to service Naples.

That certainly is rubbish. Naples is looking like the real life version of this viewer created Ecospot about the problem our household rubbish has on the environment.
"In the UK 88% of household rubbish is disposed of in landfill, increasing the pressure on landfill sites and releasing dangerous gasses into the air. We all realise there is a growing problem but nobody likes to admit that their rubbish is contributing to the problem."

    http://current.com/items/88808004_naples_italy_drowning_in_garbage

I posted about it here a couple of days ago and am grateful to see Current covering this. This is not only a crisis politically or in bringing accountability to the mafia illegaly dumping it.This goes to the moral will of people to not consume so much and make all of this garbage in the first place. And can you imagine what will now happen to the air when these incinerators are built and begin burning it? Not to mention the vermin? This is not just a problem in Naples, but it is a global problem and unless people see their contribution to it and stop the consumerism and disregard for where it goes when it leaves their hands, this world will drown in its own garbage.

    That is terrible.
So many health problems for the people.
I agree this is a global problem and I worry about trash all the time and where it goes everytime I take the trash out.
But the people need to watch on how much they consume. Because no one is really acting towards the problem. They are only making it worse.

This is just horrible. I had NO idea it was this bad! I live in NYC and I'm shocked at how much people throw out every single week with all of the food they get DELIVERED. I'm telling you, I would LOVE to see the statistics on how many tons of rubbish is delivery food trash and plastic containers...

I do what I can do, hardly ever use plastic bags. I carry all of my groceries home in my purse. There should be LAWS set in place!

    Jayzus, this is nuts.

The methane recapturing on all that rubbish is just going to waste!

Good little pod -- you have some great shots and the use of music really moved it along. I would've liked to see a few more interviews instead of cards with "authorities say" and the like. I realize there is a language barrier, but your use of subtitles worked for me. Also, some historical context: has this happened before? why is it happening now? Putting "allege" and "say" without some sort of stats or specific info to back it up makes the pod weaker than either hearing it from people's own voices or some concrete statistics. Good job overall.
