With our environments changing due to global warming, there will be social changes and conflict as well.

I couldn't agree more. People need to slightly alter the way they think about this issue. Too many people are just asking, "How do we fix global warming?" as if it's just going to take one scientist working in a lab somewhere to build a machine that removes excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Assuming no such machine can be built, we need to start thinking about how to PREPARE for the oncoming crisis, including its effects like mass migrations of people from the coasts, and the chaos that will erupt if we don't have a viable alternative energy source once we run out of oil. If our leaders, in their infinite wisdom, dwell too much on the problem itself and not how to handle the EFFECTS of the problem, we're going to be in serious trouble.
