Congratulations to Nobel laureate Gore. It's good to see Tennessee acknowledging one of their greatest native sons and residents. Finally.

  • I agree. And his message has not changed since the seventies. That was the reason he went into public service, because he thought politicians in Washington DC would see the urgency of this as he did. Especially when he invited Roger Revelle up to the Hill in the seventies to tell them of his findings regarding Co2 concentration in relation to temperature. However, thirty years later here we sit still trying to decide how we are going to do whatever it is we are going to do to address this crisis. I honestly place much of the blame for where we are now on Washington Dc and their partisan, petty, selfish agendas that have now brought us to the brink of environmental catastrophe. And though I know Mr. Gore is a humble man and doesn't do any of this for the accolades, he deserves every single one he gets.

  • I've just started reading Earth in the Balance. It's true, Gore has been saying this stuff for a long time now.

  • No. Firstly, Mr. Gore is a true Democrat and I do not believe he would be amenable to that. Secondly, I would not do that again. I now know from experience that this system is no longer designed for drafts. And I also would never do anything against the man's wishes. He deserves beyond the accolades to do this as he sees fit. What he is now doing out here is far more substantial than dealing with a system that did not listen to him previously and that has been stagnant on this for thirty years. Do I wish it were different? Sure, but I understand and agree with his reasons. As he has reiterated many times in interviews he has been there, done that, and now believes his talents and time can be better served in the private sector and in influencing events. And I respect that especially now that he is a Nobel Peace Prize winner. He is now a global leader. Should this system we have now ever change because people in this country finally wake up and see their responsibility in changing it (which I do believe he is trying to engender from his position now,) I will gladly stand with him should he ever decide to take the political route again. And should that never happen he will still have my loyal support for being a brilliant statesman of vision who never faltered in his conviction and caring for this planet, which is really the bigger picture.

This is an interview with then Vice President Al Gore by Jordan Fisher Smith at the time Earth In the Balance was first released. It is an excellent interview and an insight into the heart of Mr. Gore and his spiritual link to the environment. Thus proving this accolade and so many others regarding his work on this are well deserved. Which Is why when I look at the political landscape now and the pettiness of it he truly does transcend it all, and believe me that is truly a compliment to him.

  • I also think he deserves all the praise he gets. Where were they when he first started on this mission? I still can't help wishing he was running for Presidetn but I do respect his belief that he is where he belongs and doing what he needs to do for the planet. Way to go, Al!
