New rules on licenses pit states against federal government
"Residents of at least 17 states are suddenly stuck in the middle of a fight between the Bush administration and state governments over post-September 11 security rules for driver's licenses -- a dispute that, by May, could leave millions of people unable to use their licenses to board planes or enter federal buildings."

This is another unfunded mandate from the federal government and, even worse, it doesn't protect the privacy of the citizens. What ever happened to that thing called States' rights that I learned about in my high school Government class? Even though America has a strong federal government we're still simply a group of states coming together over an ideas, principles, and agreements.
If we allow federal law to become the law of the land and force each and every state to adopt what ever it says must be done then we'll all be in a world of hurt. Write your state governor and ask them not to support Real ID Act. -
Once a National ID card is here, you can bet it will become a crime not to have one. Given our country's history with slavery, segregation and the genocide of Native Americans, why would you trust that the government is doing this for our good? The states are right to oppose this.
