Succinct and on message, John Edwards remains cool under questioning from Wolf Blitzer about the economy, Iraq and John Kerry's endorsement of Barack Obama. He also lets the corporate media know he is in this to stay and to win.

  • About time he got a little air time. He says what I need to hear with sincerity.
  • Very well spoken. He seems as though he was more than prepared for this, which is a good thing. He still does not have my vote, yet.

  • At least he knows to put his money into his television advertisements.

  • i like this guys general beliefs... some i don;t agree with but he seems to be talking about really hardhitting issuses we NEED to talk about. i wanna vote for Ron Paul but seein how he is not going to make it, Edward's just might get my vote.

  • Redryan, can you tell us what you don't agree with? e7even, would you please tell us why Edwards does not have your vote yet? I'm seriously curious. Ando_SB doesn't sound 100% supportive either. I would love to get an in-depth discussion going here about issues that matter most to Americans. I believe Edwards beats the other viable candidates on every issue hands down, particularly on health care, but would love to hear other views.

  • There are two reasons that I am voting for Edwards. First, I like how his ideas really changed the dynamic of this election. (Before him, there was little to no talk of truly universal health care, change, or putting the interests of Americans before corporations .) Also, I hate how he has been treated by the news media, he has been vilified and treated like a third party candidate who steals votes. I feel like Edwards would be the best president, unfortunately he has been ignored since he wouldn't provide the news media with a plethora of "firsts." Imagine, if Edwards were president, the news outlets wouldn't have a "first visit to the Middle East by a female / black U.S. president" or anything else like that. By ignoring him or even asking that he drop out (like we saw in the Huffington Post) isn't the 'liberal" news media exercising just as much unfair influence on voters and the election as Fox News did when it called the election for Bush in 2000?

  • e7even: What would make you want to vote for John Edwards? Just curious./////pcamacho: Yes, the "liberal" media in regards to Mr. Edwards reminds me of Fox News at this point regarding him. And I agree with you... they are looking at the hype of playing the race or gender card over the true qualfications of each and what the candidates have or will do, and that is just as unfair to the American voter as pushing Bush in 2000 because they said he was the kind of man you would want to have a beer with. While John Edwards is talking about poverty, heathcare, ending this war, and greening the environment to make a million new green jobs available ,Obama and Clinton are arguing about what she said in regards to a law that was signed over forty years ago.To me it is insane. I don't want hype, I want issues, and as long as John Edwards stays on that road he has my vote.

  • What people are saying about John Edwards://////

Paul Krugman in The New York Times: /////

"On the Democratic side, John Edwards, although never the front-runner, has been driving his party's policy agenda. He's done it again on economic stimulus: last month, before the economic consensus turned as negative as it now has, he proposed a stimulus package including aid to unemployed workers, aid to cash-strapped state and local governments, public investment in alternative energy, and other measures."///// Christopher Hayes in The Nation: /////"The fact remains that the Edwards campaign has set the domestic policy agenda for the entire field. He was the first with a bold universal health care plan, the first with an ambitious climate change proposal that called for cap-and-trade, and the leader on reforming predatory lending practices and raising the minimum wage to a level where it regains its lost purchasing power." ///// Ezra Klein in The American Prospect://///"Much more so than Obama, it was Edwards who forced a new style of politics, untethered by the fear and timidity of the 90s, adamant that liberalism was an electoral boon and economic justice a popular sentiment. Knowing they had to defend against his challenge, both Hillary and Obama edged closer to his appeal."It left the Democrats in a much stronger position overall, and forced them to argue for, and commit to, a much broader and more inspiring agenda than we otherwise might have seen."///////He may not be leading in the corporate media polls, but he is still leading the debate. There is absolutely no reason why he should quit now. And I'm not either. And if I am not mistaken, Bill Clinton didn't win Iowa or New Hampshire in 92... and went on to serve eight years. It ain't over til it's over.

  • Setting the party's agenda. Yep! That's John. He's the real leader in this race. The other two merely follow his message and ideas. That's why he has my vote!
  • Jan, you do such a great job there isn't much left to say except right on.
  • Molly Ivins would have supported John Edwards for all the reasons she wouldn't have supported Hillary Clinton. http://current.com/items/88812822_molly_ivins_i_will_no...
  • Barack Obama or John Edwards?

As California's February 5 primary approaches, grassroots and netroots activists in California are passionately debating which presidential candidate deserves their vote. According to the most recent results of the Courage Campaign's ongoing poll of progressives in California, Senator Obama and Senator Edwards are the two most popular candidates.

  • Now that Clinton and Obama aew fighting like spoiled brats maybe we can look at the person that actually has a platform. JOHN EDWARDS
  • Exactly, Marilyn. Mr. Edwards should just let them go at it while showing America which candidate is serious about really making change.

  • JanforGore, what you have posted here is truly exceptional. Bless you for what you're trying to do to help our country heal.

  • Spoon: Thanks so much, and we are all in this together. We all love our country of that I am sure. That love and the love for my child is what keeps me fighting. Our children deserve nothing less no matter how trite that might sound to some. And while I am disillusioned with the system we have to work with, I am firmly convinced that if we rise up together we can beat it. That may seem idealistic to some, and I do have my days when I don't believe it as much as other days, but truly, giving up is simply not an option. That is why I am grateful to Mr. Edwards for conducting his campaign the way he is, and especially grateful to Al Gore and Joel Hyatt for giving us this wonderful medium to network and discuss it in.

  • Very well said/posted Jan. You definitely seem to know where you stand for this election even if you are not completely sold on a candidate yet.

  • Thank you for posting this clip.

It continues to be difficult to find any meaningful coverage of Edwards on either the major networks or even on NPR.

I am glad that Edwards remains committed to remaining in the race. As long as he does so, I feel that there is someone running for president who represents my concerns and values. I'll be casting my vote for Edwards in just a few days when early voting begins in Tennessee.

I hope that voters will keep in mind that we are not limited to merely two choices in the Democratic race, as the morning shows and the newspapers would have us to believe. The goal is not to choose a media-dubbed "winner" but rather to choose the best candidate for president. I'm choosing Edwards.

  • Richardson pulls out, Hil-dawg gets a 5 point jump. Edwards pulling out, Obama gets an 11 point jump.

Someone needs to have a frank conversation with our slightly angrier, white version of Obama.
  • Jan: Thought of you when I read this . . .

    Indian Wisdom

WHERE DID THE WHITE MAN GO WRONG?

Indian Chief,'Two Eagles,' was asked by a white government official, 'You have observed the white man for 90 years. You've seen his wars and his technological advances. You've seen his progress, and the damage he's done.'
    The Chief nodded in agreement.

The official continued, 'Considering all these events, in your opinion, where did the white man go wrong?'

The Chief stared at the government official for over a minute and then calmly replied.

'When white man find land, Indians running it. No taxes, No debt, Plenty buffalo, Plenty beaver, Clean Water; Medicine Man free. Indian man spend all day hunting and fishing; All night having sex.'

Then the chief leaned back and smiled. 'Only white man dumb enough to think he can improve system like that.
