Iraq war has ground forces stretched thin

Image...
"If the U.S. were to face a new conventional threat, its military could not respond effectively without turning to air power, officials and analysts say.

"That is the ultimate upshot of the war in Iraq: a response elsewhere would consist largely of U.S. fighters and bombers -- even, perhaps, some degree of nuclear strike -- because so many ground troops are tied up in Operation Iraqi Freedom."

Even, perhaps, some degree of nuclear stike???

They are insane.

Watch out, Iran, they've cooked up the perfect excuse to nuke you. :(

Shock and awe? US are already dependent on air power. Great quote i heard somewhere "Modern warfare is just people bombing the hell out of each other from great distances". Unless you gotta go house to house, isn't it pretty much call in the mass people killing big birds?

This is also a good excuse to increase government spending on yet more military, pretty soon its going to go from 50% to 75% military spending.

Must feel good to sit in the white house and police the world. Fighting wars you have no reason to be in apart from global energy control.... i hope they get whats coming too them. (not the troops) Them i feel deep sympathy for. But with no internal industry to support them, what else they gonna do?

holy crap! This is why you should watch less tv and read a book. A nuclear exchange in the middle east would be great for a conspiricy theory. Why can't we just except that the middle east is f'd up and when we do nothing we're lame, do something, we're lame. good thing we still have gun rights to fend for ourselves. oh, wait, you probably think thats lame too. I got a rock in my yard you can hide under if it makes you feal better.

I don't watch tv and I read a lot of books. A nuclear attack on Iran is a very likely eventuality. As for your gun rights, they won't be much good for fending for yourselves unless you're prepared to kill your neighbours and relatives so as to take their food reserves.

Sure you do. forgive me for assuming that you didn't. I plan on not killing anyone for there food. How lame. But there is plenty of that in other nations. but crapping on them for it is'nt whats cool right now . America is such an easy target for parinoia.

We've got to nuke Iran or jesus won't come back. The good book says so.
And air power is all we need for any war. The sexiest thing on the planet is the F22.

The bomb is not yet in play, we only pull that one out if it's all out regional warfare and conventional force has been neutralized. In truth, it makes no sense to nuke the middle east unless there was no resources there we wanted. Geopolitics outweighs ideological grounds for war in many cases, and with Iran, once again, we've got them in the box they're in because the regime is seen as an existential threat to Israel and the Arab states.

wiggleroomlarvae, in my opinion, the existential threat to Israel and the Arab states is the official excuse for much darker motives.
