A big problem is that most people don't understand where their taxes go.

Here, here! The Republicans say there is not enough revenue coming in to pay for social welfare programs and the 15 new Stealth Bombers that cost $75 BILLION EACH -- so the only logical solution is to eliminate Social Security, WIC and Food Stamps. Um, no. We need to reprioritize the budget and ask ourselves, "Do we really need 15 more Stealth Bombers? Do we really need to be spending 100 BILLION on a Star Wars-style missle defense system when the last terrorist attack on US soil was carried out using $10 worth of box cutters?" The Republicans are like a primitive tribe of people who are so terrified by the world around them they think emptying out the taxpayer wallet in front of the great god Dept. of Defense will magically make them "safe" for all the evils of the world. If a contractor tells a Congressman, "Psst! Buddy! I heard that terrorists have magic beans-bombs that blow up buildings! If you give me 1 TRILLION DOLLARS I can develop an anti-magic bean bomb weapons system that will ensure you live forever! Whaddya say, pal?" I can already see the poor Republicans eyes growing wide with hysterical terror -- immediately running for the checkbook of the taxpayer and frantically writing a check. "I just hope those cowardly liberals don't try to kill this project! Magic bean bombs! Oh no! Oh no! Take all my money, Mr. Contractor! Take it! Take every last penny if you promise it will ensure I live forever and will protect me from the magic bean-bomb terrorists!" As the contractor walks away with the check he can be heard to mutter (with an evil smirk), "Sure pal. I promise! Would I lie to you?"

Way to go, Steve! I live in Portland and am supporting your campaign. Best of Luck!

I think a Thank you is kind of another useless waste of money, honestly. People are unhappy because there is a war and a large amount of the tax money is being wasted on it. Furthermore, the government will not listen to the demands of the people by ending this war ASAP.
Second, if you research, you would find that the income tax was never actually made into law so I'd rather people come together to abolish it.
I am definitely a huge fan of you coming onto current.com, you've got my respect Mr Novick

ii368, someone has given you bad information. the income tax was established as part of the Revenue Act of 1913:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revenue_Act_of_1913
which lowered tariffs and added an income tax.
