Simply beautiful. Gives me another reason to visit New York

This statue is an amazing tribute to Harriet Tubman. The piece is gorgeous and extremely well-designed. I especially like the faces embedded within the statue and the symbolism of the roots. In this pod, we really get to know Saar's intentions, but I would like to know a little more about her personal connection to Tubman. Also, as with most public works, the goal is change its surrounding space, so it would have been nice to get some neighborhood reaction.

This piece really gives you a sense the African American cultural heritage that there is in Harlem. To see that erected statue and the interview with the artist, really gives a sense of hope and recognition of that heritage.

This is a great pod. I love the sculpture. The intricate details are so powerful, especially the faces you can see inset in the piece. I wish the music would have been a little more prominent and the shots a bit quicker, but altogether a good piece that accomplishes what it sets out to do: capture the essence of a memorial dedicated to a powerful figurehead in American history.

There's few more deserving than Miss Tubman. She is a name in a history full of nameless.

Thank you currenttv, Alison and Derek. This pod is fantastic. I teach African American History and African American Art History. This pod allows me to reach my students with the content of the course that underscores the rich cultural heritage and image making of African American artists that comes from the unique black experience in American history.

Derek, this is a well produced piece! Alison, the statue is absolutely gorgeous. I love the details in her skirt. It had literal aspects that were incorporated in a way that didn't take away from the artist aspects of the piece. I love it!
